Over my month in Melbourne, King & Godfree had the best selection close to Melbourne's CBD (downtown) -- only a 10-15 minute walk up in Carlton on Lygon St.
High-end food & wine shop, with a good beer selection. Service was occasional - not particularly outgoing.
Good variety of local Australian microbrews, Belgian, English, German, and a few countries (not US). Happy to find this place after having to travel well outside the city for good beer selection.
Coming from the US, beer is much more pricey beer in Melbourne, even after netting out the exchange rates (I'm sure water & transport issues are big here). But King & Godfree is on-par or slightly less expensive than other places I found around the city. If you're near Melbourne's CBD, definitely worth a visit.
