Beer pours to a clear ruby with practically no head retention whatsoever. What foam is there clings for dear life to the side of the glass as you sip.
I smell fermented fruit, rum raisin, cane syrup, and black pepper. Slight grassy hop at the back end.
Taste is big and complex, an sharp alcoholic bite upfront with characters coming and going throughout, roasted pecans, dried fruits, green pepper, even hints of tropical fruits, and the more obvious toasted grain... maybe even a spot of chocolate malt (I can taste a bit of heavy roasting at the back end).
Mouthfeel is thick, sweet, and a tad syrupy. Probably wouldn't be too easy to thin this one out due to the initial gravity.
Not a beer that I could session easily due to the powerful flavors and alc. content, but nonetheless an enjoyable brew.

Presentation: Very classy looking label with an awesome looking logo and a decent color scheme with eye-catching look. Label gives web info, ABV info, IBU info, a small description of the beer, a nice back story on beer, a bit of brewery info, and states “Colorado Mountain Town Crafted Beer” and Tommy Knocker has been creating quality lagers and ales in the Rocky Mountain since 1994.”
Appearance: An aggressive pour from its 12oz brown bottle into a 14oz Pokal glass led to a 2 ½ finger tan head of medium density atop a clear deep dark amber/mahogany beer. Head retention was 4min 12sec before fading to a thick ring and coating with excellent lacing.
Smell/Aroma: Smells of dark fruit, toasted malts, and a toffee aroma with a nice alcohol bite.
Flavor/Taste: Taste is of molasses and dark fruits on the front end before a toasted toffee malt midpoint with hints of hops and alcohol. Finishes roasty with a nice toffee flavor. Roasty aftertaste.
MouthFeel/Drinkability: Thick, creamy, and full bodied with a smooth slick mouthfeel. Drinkability is medium because of the full bodied nature and higher ABV.
Overall/Comments: I really enjoyed this beer and loved how it stayed so true to the style. Excellent mouthfeel and flavor profile. This would be a perfect lat fall beer. Classifed as a Doppelbock @ 8.2% ABV. Consumed 9/22/2013.
