Bottle into a pint glass.

A : A vigorous pour results in a good finger and a half foamy tan head. Color is quite nice caramel brown that shines in the light.

S : Maple syrup is potent, but some notes of nuttyness dart in as well.

T : You could pour this on pancakes, as the syrupy sweetness dominates atop a malty layer. There is just a light note of nut and coffee on the finish. This one is sweet, very sweet.

M : Medium bodied with a frothy filling feel (say that 5 times fast), leaves a light sweet coat.

D : If you like sweet & malty, this is a very solid brew. Would serve well as a dessert brew. Far sweeter than most American Ale's.

I reviewed the bigger, imperial, brother of this ale some time back and found it lackluster. It seems the bigger brew loses some of maple sweetness in favor of alcohol.

Happy hour at my house! However it comes with one caveat; you can't come! Only I, DoubleJ, can drink this Colorado mountain town brown ale, and there's 12 ounces. On to the beer:

I'm not sure if this is a brown ale or an orange amber ale. Okay, brown enough. On top is a short creamy head which yields spots of lace around the glass. The beer has a nutty aroma, a kiss of dry toffee, and more nuttiness.

The overall flavor is respectable while being easy to drink. Still a nutty forward brown ale, but with a little extra overall sweetness. Hazelnut, toffee, a very light hop bitterness, all along the flavored tasted. The beer is light bodied with soft carbonation, and a lingering nuttiness in the aftertaste.

Respect to Idaho Springs for this mountain town brown. It does the job of being flavorful and drinkable. Give this to a Newcastle Brown Ale lover.

This is a clear, chestnut brown beer. The head is fizzy and a bit thin. Nice malty, nutty scent. I didn't get much maple in the aroma, but there is a pleasant toast smell. A bit more maple comes out in the flavor. Semi sweet and malty. Medium in body. This is a better than average, enjoyable brew.

Pours out to a thin buff head that makes an honest attempt to lace the glass. Clear brown color. Aroma is...maple with a hint of nuts and malt. Flavor is nutty, malty and slightly sweet with a crisp finish. light mouthfeel, not syrupy at all. Overall good quaff.

This is a wonderful session beer that you could gulp over and over again. The maple sweetness blends beautifully with the nutty flavor and is wonderfully drinkable. Pairs great with breakfast food or after a day of skiing or snowshoeing or around a campfire.
