Meticulously crafted with pure maple syrup and the highest quality chocolate and crystal malts. With it's big, malty and complex character, it is a strapping, bolder version of their wildly popular Maple Nut Brown

Appearance - Pour a finger of rich creamy light mocha foam, body is a slightly opaque warm brown color,

Smell - Burnt toffee, maple syrup, roasted malt, baked wheat bread, rich soy sauce, just a whiff of ripe dark fruits like fig and raisin.

Taste - begins with rich roasted malt and lots of dark fruits, much like the nose I get fig, roasted plums, raisin, a smack of semi-sweet maple, and hints of black cherry, there is also a nuttiness here that combines with the dark fruits that reminds me of amaretto, right behind this is warm roasted breadcrusts, which is then joined by dark slightly astringent coffee, and some tartness of dark fruit skins, and ends with some dry and bitter char and a hint of unsweetened black licorice. Regarding the maple, I pick this up mostly in the sinuses, and on the lips after the quaff. Alcohol is well hidden, but adds heat throughout the session, nicely hidden for 9%.

Mouthfeel - A bit more weight than medium, there is some weight here although it does not coat the mouth. Flavors are fairly bold, and become astringent and dry at the end of the quaff. Carb is on the lower side of medium and silky smooth at the center of the tongue, and provides some light edges and gentle scrub at the sides and back of the tongue, allowing for more of a bitter, dry finish. Regarding the maple, I pick this up mostly in the sinuses, and on the lips after the quaff.

Overall - I have to say, I really think they've nailed what you would expect from an imperial nut brown ale with maple syrup. The finish may seem a bit astringent, but I personally don't mind this as the front and center are bold and fruity with plenty of nuttiness and semi-sweet roastiness. Interesting and potent, give this one a try.

Best before December 15, 2014, bottle poured into a pint glass

A- pours a clear chestnut brown with a ruby hue, small fizzy off-white head reduces to just a ring around the edge 3.75

S- classic toasted malty brown ale aroma with some nutty notes up front, sweet maple syrup brings out some chocolate & molasses aroma, herbal hop closes it out 3.75

T- toasty malt up front with notes of toasted almonds, smoky campfire, bittersweet chocolate, caramel and freshly baked bread, fig & prune, the maple syrup kicks in as it nears the finish and provides a biting sweetness, finishing with some herbal/medicinal notes 4

M- medium viscous body with low carbonation leads to a slightly syrupy mouthfeel and a smooth and warming finish, alcohol is hidden very well 4

O- this surely doesn't drink like a 9% beer, the maple works well with the nuttiness of the malt. Easy drinking beer that will definitely catch up with you, overall good 4
