This brew pours almost black but shows some brownish-red when held up to the light. There is a 1.5 finger off white head, some of which lasts on top until the end. Medium lacing.

The smell is musty, dank and boozy. Chocolate, sweet and slightly roasted malts are present.

The taste follows the nose with light chocolate and roasted malts dominating. There are some sweet malts and a boozy flavor that comes in near the end. No detectable hops.

Overall this brew is boozy and kind of flat. Not very exciting to drink.

12 oz bottle; nonic pint

A – Pours very dark brown with an inch of light tan foam. Head lingers for a while, about a cm of retention.

S – Very mild profile. Lots of chocolate and coffee, burnt notes. Sweetness on the finish.

T – Very sweet, get a lot of the honey, mild chocolate. Coffee, charred flavors perceptible only on the finish.

M – Medium carbonation, not enough to balance the sweetness. Definitely not a dry beer.

O – I like what this beer is trying to do, but there’s just not enough to get me there. Everything about it is mild, so it could be a very nice introduction to someone who’s never had a porter or a chocolate beer before. Other than the sweetness, nothing is really striking about it.

Appearance: A dark, fairly lustrous body with a light, one-finger caramel head that leaves some lacing on the side of the glass.

Smell: Some light cocoa and maltiness on the nose.

Taste: As some others have mentioned, I didn't notice any honey. There's plenty of malt, along with some sweetness from the cocoa. It's a decent Porter.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, smooth on the tongue. A good balance with the malts.

Overall: I thought this was a pretty good brew, not the best in the world, but solid. It's good to have around in the winter weather. Outside it's sleeting right now, so I guess the atmosphere is right to be drinking this.

Out of a 12 ounce bottle, with many thanks to Jon. On to the beer:

The beer is nearly black and leaves some spots of lacing on the glass. It has a pleasant dry cocoa powder aroma, mixed with a kiss of brownie mix. Luckily, the flavor isn't too sweet. Tomoyknocker delivers an easy drinking cocoa porter which leaves notes of brownie mix, brownie batter, and a dash of citrus hops. It's a light bodied beer, and I feel it's more than just a beer to snuggle with during the winter. I personally would happy to drink this as dessert during the summer.
