A bock, aged in oak? Why don't I see this more often? Must try now. On to the beer:

Looks chestnut colored, and topped with a semi-creamy head which retains well, it's a looker. Adding to the appearance are the several strings of lacing it leaves. The aroma has a fun spiciness, a light oak note, vague sweet bread , and a squeeze of white grape. At this point, I'm having fun and ready to drink.

With a good sweet bock base, little spots of toasted cling to the base and give this bock a distinct flavor from other bocks. A breath of warming alcohol adds to the fun, as does a fruity note. Left in the aftertaste is bread crust and a little oak. It's a full bodied beer that's lightly carbonated, and at the end it's one pleasing bock.

Best by 7/28/14. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a murky ruby brown with a small tan head that fades quickly and leaves solid retention and not much lacing. The aromas are pretty sweet and full of dark fruit. Lots of raisins and plums. Some cherry. Some chocolate and toffee too. I'm also picking up some spices. Maybe even some cinnamon? It almost smells like there's a "pumpkin" vibe to it. The oak aromas are subtle. The flavors seem to match the nose. Lots of sweet caramel with more cocoa in the mix. The malts are definitely present. More fresh cherries, possibly black cherries. The oak is subtle in the flavor department as well, but it's definitely there giving it another dimension. This one is on the sweeter side, but in a good way. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied; it feels thin but there's enough body to it. The carbonation is active and it's a pretty smooth brew. Alcohol goes unnoticed.

This is a very solid beer. I always liked this base beer, and the oaked version is nice too. It's worth checking out.

Nice mahogany color with a thin tan head that vanished quickly.
Just releasing the cap, a bold malty and fruity smell blossomed around. Nice aroma of caramel, red fruits, tobacco, maple, Brandy and wood.
Wonderful flavor with notes of red fruits, caramels, vanilla, licorice, maple, spices, floral and earthy hops, tobacco, roasted malts, charred wood, cocoa and a subtle tartness. Slightly dry and bitter aftertaste.
Medium body with appropriate carbonation. Alcohol of 8.1% abv is harmonic and enhances the experience.
This is a very good Doppelbock. A style that when it is well crafted, it surprises, generally you don’t see that coming from lager yeast. This is a month to due date, definitely it aged well. I am curious to try their regular version.

Picked this up at the brewery a couple months ago. Wax sealed. Poured well with a nice frothy head. The oak smell was there, but not enough in the taste. Still, a subtle smoky taste while still maintaining the smooth bock mouth feel. I wish they let it age in the barrels a little longer, or maybe add some wood chips during the boil?
