A: The beer is relatively clear dark amber in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin dense tan colored head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface, a collar around the edge and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of pumpkins and pumpkin pie spices are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell but the flavors are a bit stronger and there is a little bit of sweetness. Among the spices, nutmeg seems to stand out in particular.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a good balance between the pumpkin flavors and pumpkin pie spices and also isn't too sweet, but both the smell and taste seem to be too weak. Nonetheless, the beer is very easy to drink.

I poured this from a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass.

The first thing I noticed was the lack of head as I poured the beer. There is may an eighth of an inch atop the beer. The beer's color is a dark chocolate color with amber hues against the light. Lacing is also minimal.

The smell improves on the appearance, although a smell of vegetables is strange. Fortunately, pumpkin, mild spice and subtle malt emerge eventually. As for the flavor, there is much to like in this department. The beer has nuttiness, caramel notes, spice, cinnamon and nutmeg, vanilla, and a bit of pumpkin pie flavor. The sheer number of different tastes that emerge is surprising considering the less than notable nose and appearance. The beer tastes pretty good.

The mouthfeel too is good, with light carbonation, some sweetness and mild dryness.

Overall, the beer would not be my go-to pumpkin ale, but it is one I'd return to.

12oz bottle with no date, poured into a new belgium tulip glass

look is a very clear dark ruby color, with a thin spattering of mocha head. smell is heavy pumpkin spice, lighter pumpkin. taste is biscuity sweet malt at first, with a heavy (burnt?) spice presence on the finish. has a cloying feel to the finish, almost waxy.

i feel like i can taste the molasses in there... yeah, i won't pick this one up again

Picked up a single of this brew at my local establishment, Civera's in Drexel Hill. A nice, cool, somewhat chilly and spots of passing clouds in the atramentous, dark sky and a nice, harvest moon to set the background. Let's see how this works out.

Appearance: Pours a dark, stout-like. Leaves behind some residual lacing, but not much on the way down. Very dark, chestnut, brown. Actually darker that I remember most pumpkin beers of high-quality. Not too bad, but what disappointed me was the lack of head. On the final pour, it was good, but dissipated quickly.

Smell: At first, it gave off a sweet, molasses-like scent. Had some notes of caramel too. Light roasted malts and very light earthy spices. Light cinnamon and nutmeg and some pumpkin aroma, but again, very light. Good, but missing more of a pumpkin flavor. But not entirely too bad.

Taste: The first sips give off a very similar taste as mentioned in the smell: sweet molasses and almost a toffee like flavor. A bit overwhelming in the sweet department, as it doesn't give much of a pumpkin flavor, which is somewhat disappointing, but still not a bad beer. The cinnamon and nutmeg flavors make their appearance known. Gentle finish though. Not too bad for someone looking for some pumpkin flavors.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes somewhat dry, but has a gentle aftertaste. Not bad.

Overall: Coming into this, I was a bit hopeful for a beer that was/is full flavored. It had a nice presentation, but fell short of flavor and aroma. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent session beer, but for a seasoned veteran of beer tasting, it's sorta a let down. My girlfriend seemed to enjoy it, so that was a big plus. But maybe next year, a little altering of the recipe can make big things happen in a positive way and this beer can be memorable.

No pumpkins were harmed in the making of this beer.

That is, this beer doesn't even have a hint of pumpkin flavor. Instead, it has a heavy malt draw combined with a middle of the road dark beer smell and taste. Finish features a slightly burnt taste, which is what I'd do with the recipe for this beer.

I'm certainly not looking for a beer that tastes like a pumpkin pie, but the pumpkin taste or lack thereof certainly was a downer for me. Look for my eBay listing for the remaining 4 beers very soon.
