My wife and I make Tommyknocker Brewpub a priority every summer while camping in Colorado. The short trip on I-70 is scenic, so just getting there is worht the trip. Idaho Springs is a lovely little town full of Victorian-style houses, so even after Tommyknocker you can walk around, grab a coffee, and enjoy the atmosphere. The thing about Tommyknocker is the quality you get. Every meal we've eaten there has been delicious. Brewpubs should be known for quality beer, but food? Tommyknocker has a great menu and absolute quality food. The brewing process is right there for you to casually walk around, look at, take photos, watch, enjoy. They have a small cooler in the reception area/waiting area so you can grab a sixer on your way out the door. Also a t-shirt rack and pint glasses are for sell. They are generaly busy depending on the time of day, but there's always been good service. This place is a must-go-to for our family each year. Oh -- and I forgot to mention .... their beer is terrific.

I love visiting this place in Idaho Springs, and the restaurant is as good as the beer. Hard to go wrong with a buffalo burrito and a beer, that's for sure. I liked the old style of label and logo more than the new version, but that's how it goes sometimes. As long as they keep the beer good, right? They could stand to try a few new ideas, but the tried and true are generally successful.

A must everytime we drive out (or back from) the mountains. Every visit has new seasonals/rotators/etc as well as their long time favorites.

Food's also pretty good

Stopped into the TK on my way to a wedding in Granby. Maybe it's just on weekends, but parking isn't all that great. However, I won't knock off points b/c I like that it's a small community joint.

Not a small place. You can tell they've crept their way into acquiring and expanding into neighboring structures over the years. Bar/brewery on the right, restaurant on the left. Host/ess station seemed overwhelmed, but got seated fairly quickly for lunch.

There really is not separation between bar and brewing operations, maybe a railing. With 20 some fermenters, they can crank out many beers. I had the Munich Amber and Rye Porter, both were decent and easy drinking. Matched my pulled pork sammy pretty well, although the sammich could have been warm. Big deal, I ate that sum'bitch anyway.

They had been brewing their pumpkin beer for several days in a row now, and I think they are ready to move on. A wheat wine was being experimented as well as a BA saison. Not sure if they will make more of each, but they had some interesting characteristics.
