Very flavorful Northwestern IPA and very fresh tasting. I couldn't smell much as allergies were kicking my butt that day but there was nothing wrong with my tastebuds
Appearance: Pale gold and cloudy with minimal head
Smell: Earthy hops with a malt back
Taste: Earty, piney, fresh grain notes balanced with malt
Mouthfeel: Lingering maltiness with bitterness; well crafted indeed
Drinkability: More earthy than citrusy; well balanced with the malt and grains providing a very flavorful and sipping IPA without the flavors becoming overpowering

22 oz botttle from "Lifesource", Salem. $4.95 Hazy orange beer with a huge rocky, cloudlike eggshell white head. Aroma a bit subdued but mostly resiny hop. Taste is again mostly resiny hop with a nice toasted malt back..simple yet quite elegant. Nice on the palate, liked the mellow ,long bitter aftertaste. An OK PNW IPA

The classic orangey amber color in the globe with plenty of foam and a sudsy mouthfeel. Some plain sweet malt with a modest biscuity taste. Dark fruity aroma with some flowery hops.
Interesting mouthful of hops, but kind of a dank stew. Orange juice with the peel. Quite resiny and with a thoroughly bitter aftertaste. The fourth "fresh hop" IPA found on the Northwest road trip, a great tradition in hop country. Label says Cascade, Centennial, Chinook, and Willamette hops. An interesting one to sample but it's a lot of hops for a big glass. This will make a good flavoring for the cheap lager. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Market of Choice on 29th in Eugene.

On draught at the pub , hazy Copper with a small white Skim leaving nice lace
Smell is very pungent and dank, woody and herbal.
Taste is also woody, stemmy hops, firm bitterness. Bready Malt, but no sweetness.
Mouthful is chewy, medium + body.
Drinkability is ok, a very bitter IPA. Old Skool Oregon.

I began a recent session at Calapooia with a pint of their seasonal Simcoe Springs IPA and followed up later with a pint of Riparian. Contrary to my expectations, the Riparian was the lesser of the two ales and though a fine ale in its own right, was disappointing by comparison.
Riparian shares a similar skunk cannabis aroma to Simcoe (the good kind of "skunk", if you get me) but with lesser delicacy. It is dark, unfiltered oak-amber, but virtually uncarbonated. The flavor forms around firm, upfront bittering with sharp contours.
A decent ale, but it can't live up to its seasonal companion. By the way, did you notice the letters IPA concealed in the word "Riparian"? I missed it.
