Well, I hit Llywelyn’s during a “taste of Soulard” Saturday – so the place was packed at lunch. I still enjoyed the bar area, with all the revelers as they tossed beers and hurricanes down. I made it to the bar and had lunch and a couple pints.

They have a separate area for dining, but it was closed this day. The bar area was comfortable and spacious with its 10 foot ceilings. Entire area was wooden – bar, tables, floor, etc. Nice flat screen TVs, so I able to catch some college basketball while I enjoyed a tasty club chicken sandwich.

The numerous taps must change frequently, as I noted many NB on tap but not listed on their webpage (Fat Tire, 2-below, 1554, Paddle). Only three Missouri brews on tap – Schlafly PA, Boulevard PA & wheat – a bit lame in my opinion.

Eight England brews, wish I had time to try the Fullers Chocolate – but the next bar is a’calling.

Coming here after a Cardinals game, I wanted to give Llywelyn's another try (at another one of their locations).

The atmosphere here was very live and real. Tons of Cardinal fans were present after the game and there was quite a fun energy going around the place. Great place for those who people watch.

While having to ask for a non-chilled glass, getting poured almost no-head on both my beers, and everything served into a Guinness Imperial Pint Glass, there is nothing too special with the quality here.

The bartender was nice but there were a few issues I had. Firstly, she didn't give out her name to call her when we were ready for drinks or food after given menus. After this, I was ready to order and she simply went to the other end of the bar after getting appetizers for others in our party. Not a big deal, but then there was no help on the beer selection here. The Llywelyn's Brown Dragon Ale (by Schlafly), she had no idea the style (english or american) or what any of the others present here were. Not a big issue, but not a place you come for beer.

Selection was over 75% A.B. and then the rest was Guinness, Harp, (no Smithwicks....), 1 Schlafly (the other 2 were out) and Fuller's casks. Not the best.

After having a tough experience with food @ the Central West End Llywelyn's, I decided to try something on the sandwich list this time. I had their Pub Burger and it was served on a McDonalds McMuffin bun. This and that the onions weren't cooked all the way, I had to take everything off the burger and just eat the meat plain. Also ordered Calamari and it was over cooked by a ton...

I'll tell you what, sometimes you give a place another chance, and its great the second time, this was not the case here.... I'm wishing that someone has brought their lame beer selection and terrible food up to them because this only is detracting from business. Good luck Llywelyn's...

Visited the Llywelyn's on 9th in the Soulard neighborhood after shopping at the Farmer's Market. Plenty of outdoor seating when we arrived. Wasn't sure what to expect. The Irish pub down the block featured a number of A-B signs, but we didn't see any here.

Beer list featured 25 taps (none A-B!) as well as a few bottles. Choice ran the gamut, but I wanted something local, so had the O'Fallon 5-Day IPA.

The server seemed disappointed we weren't ordering food, but did come by now and again to make sure we weren't empty. Even suggested a beer he'd been enjoying lately, but I'm not much for cream ales, so I passed.
