The Golden Valley Liquor Barrel is hidden in an old strip mall just off Highway 55 at Winetka in Golden Valley. They're not huge and probably don't have the best selection in town, but they carry a variety of domestic microbrews and great offerings from around the world. At any given time, they might have any number of offerings from Bell's, Schell's, Surly, Unibroue, Sierra Nevada, Belgians, German beers, etc. This is also the place to get local favorite, Surly, in kegs. The staff is friendly, the sales are nice and I always find something to bring home. This may not be the best liquor store in town, but they're pretty good for their size.

This is a pretty standard Twin Cities liquor store. From the exterior this place looks fairly run down, but the interior is clean and acceptable. The beer selection is fair, with most of the locals, SN, Southern Tier, Magic Hat, and some Belgians. Most of the beers are in coolers. A large number of BMC beers are available as well. The service is mediocre as the only person who seems to be working there is working the checkout. She was friendly enough, though. Prices are decent with rough $9 six packs for craft and fair prices on bombers.

Average is the best word I can come up with to describe the Liquor Barrel location in Golden Valley. The selection is alright. Any BA will certainly find something worth drinking. However, they don't really carry anything even remotely out of the ordinary. Summit, Schell's, Surly, Odell's, Bell's, Deschuttes, and other larger craft breweries is about all your going to find. The service at this location consists of someone at the register to process your purchase. I have never seen anyone on the floor willing to answer any questions. Prices, however, are on the lower end of the spectrum for stores in the Twins Cities area. So if you are looking for an old stand by beer for a good price the Golden Valley Liquor Barrel isn't a bad place to shop.
