500ml bottle purchased from Marks & Spencers, York.
Look: Deep, almost opaque, brown which yields a few (very few!) ruby red highlights when held up to the light. Plenty of frothy, beige/tan head and a fair amount of lacing left behind.
Smell: Not a massive amount going on here - what smells there are are both malty and muted, with maybe the faintest hint of slightly artificial chocolate. OK, so this is never going to be a hop bomb but even so there's a definite blandness about it.
Taste: Gets a bit more interesting here - the maltiness is more pronounced and there's that bitter/sweet taste like you get from a really dark, plain chocolate bar (it reminded me of 85% cacao chocolate, but there you are) with a slight coffee vibe alongside it. Unfortunately, there's also a bit of a 'chemical' edge to it which, I suspect, is the chocolate syrup.
Feel: Pretty light for a stout - it's not excessively fizzy, but it does feel a bit watery and thin bodied, and the artificial edge to the chocolate flavour really doesn't do it any favours either. Decent enough finish, though.
Overall: Disappointing - whilst there are undoubtedly some chocolate flavours in there, there's something (the chocolate syrup, perhaps?) that gives the flavour an artificial feeling. Matters aren't really helped by its somewhat anaemic mouthfeel, either. There are lots of chocolate stouts out there, some of similar ABV to this, but this one really misses the mark for me - losing the chocolate syrup might go some way towards moving the chemical edge to it. Sam Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout is still the benchmark.

500 ml bottle, will soon be available at Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 4.8%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Strong aroma of cocoa / chocolate. The flavour has also loads of chocolate and cocoa, but is not very sweet. Some coffee and noticeable hops in the background. Despite the dominant chocolate: This is actually a well balanced beer, pleasant to drink, and does not become cloying.

De Labirratorium. En vaso de pinta inglesa de Ikea. Jugando a Slay the Spire. Mucho y riquisimo chocalate con leche, sin llegar a cansar nada y con una sensacion en boca plena pese a su bajo alcohol

50cl bottle, no indication of age.
Rubyish brown, weak foam that does leave a thin layer.
Aroma is a cloying mix of vanilla and chocolate. Unpleasantly artificial.
Taste is actually less chocolatey than the aroma. The body is very very thin and the flavour could in the spirit of benefaction be called something like cocoa. If made into cold water by a particularly stingy person. Soapy indeterminately bitter, metallic aftertaste.
Well. 'Third of a choc' would be a better name and it is hard to understand why they have chosen to make the body so aquatic. They do not actually call this 'stout' but rather 'dark beer'. Quite rightly so, as this is more like a dusky anorexic that has taken a bath with cheap artificial aromatics. Pointless.

Pours with a small head and some decent lacing down the glass. The beer is almost black and looks dense and deeply malted. However, the mouthfeel is a little thin compared to earlier versions I have drank. Although it is dark the taste is a little unbalanced, with coffee and chocolate at the forefront. There is hop on the finish, as well as some sweetness.

500ml bottle. BB 08/17. Pours a very deep brown with a low brownish head which reduced to a collar, leaving a trace of lacing. Aroma of cocoa powder, roasted malt, some espresso and incense. Some light sweetness in a light to medium body is followed by the lingering roasted bitterness.

Bottle at The Black Sheep, Dublin, Ireland
A: The beer is black when viewed from afar. When held up to bright light, the edges are dark brown in color. It poured with a short off white head that quickly died down and left a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of chocolate syrup are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste is like biting into a chocolate bar and offers both bittersweet and sweet chocolaty flavors.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is very chocolaty but keeps things relatively modest so it doesn't seem overpowering or gimmicky.

Pitch black with a good, light tan head. Fair head retention.
Sweet, dry, chocolate aroma. That's a contradiction isn't it? Well it is that sweet, powdery cocoa aroma. Touches of nuttiness. Quite good.
Moderately sweet malt. Lightly bitter cocoa flavour. Plenty of chocolate.
Medium to medium-full body with moderate carbonation. Fine.
A decent little chocolate beer. It works but doesn't scream for me to come back.
