A 500ml bottle with a BB of Feb 2014. Acquired a while back from Trembling Madness in York. The label describes it as a black IPA that contains plenty of American hops.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark reddish-brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a large head of creamy beige foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of rich roasted malt and hops with hints of burnt grain, dark malt, mild coffee, faint molasses, pine, weed, grass, stewed hops and a twinge of earthy yeast. A big beast.

Tastes of intense roasted malt with a hoppy character and a powerful bitter finish. Notes of dark malt, burnt grain, coffee, liquorice, mild molasses, pine resin, weed, stewed hops and faint earthy yeast. Spicy hop oils linger in the background, followed by an intense bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with hop oils tantalising the palate. Pleasantly effervescent carbonation only serves to enhance a well-judged body. Somewhat astringent, with an aftertaste of bitter aromatic hops, ardent roasted malt and coffee.

Very nice - good to see Saltaire stretching their boundaries. Looks the part, while the aroma and flavour are big and bold; roasted malt, coffee and pine all mingling together. Lovely body, smooth and spritzy. Quality - if you're a fan of roasted malt and hops then this will be right up your street. Worth sampling if you come across it.

Gorgeous near pitch black body thanks to dark brown hues sits below a slightly tanned thick tight bubbled head.

The aroma is the one thing that is lacking in the beer the closest thing I can liken it to is sea air and wood varnish

The taste however is fantastic, remember those Fruit Salad chewy sweets, the Pineapple & raspberry candy treat is present here running paralel with a straight black coffee fix, the beauty is that these two taste strains compliment each other rather than clashing, where some of these brews fail.
Then a nice biting bitterness whisks it all off the tongue.

Pitch perfect carbonation slightly lively to assure you this may be dark but it's still IPA with a mouthfeel that combats the strength to make it dangerously drinkable

Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, not bottle-conditioned; BB 11/2014, served cool in a straight pint glass.

A: pours a very dark mahogany brown colour, coming with a well-lasting layer of creamy dark beige froth, on top of a healthy supply of mild carbonation.
S: rather gentle in terms of fruity hops and malts, with light touches of roastiness, earthy dried-leafy hops and grapefruity notes around. Given a good swirl, the plum jam, light toffee-ish notes and licorice come to the fore. Pleasant but low-profile all in all.
T: the lightly effervescent, citric fruity and roast malty entry is followed immediately by a rather chewy-citric bitterness of aromatic fruity and spicy hops, bitter licorice, and brown prunes, as well as a gristy mouthfeel of dark bitter chocolates with some roasted or burned nutty quality. Turning increasingly bitter towards the aftertaste, where the light touch of burned toffee renders a subtle sweetness to linger with otherwise predominating depth of hop bitterness, finishing pleasantly dry.
M&O: softly carbonated, medium-bodied, well-balanced, fairly bitter with an amazing depth, albeit not particularly hoppy for this type of ale. I wonder if the genius brewer Dave Saunders is the sole creator of this beer or is now in charge of the production of this existing product. But all in all the impression is fairly good and I’d happily have two pints at a single sitting without feeling heavy at all. Well recommended.
