Lasso Session IPA.

LASSO is the new frontier of India Pale Ale. Brewed with a robust roundup of Columbus, Centennial and Cascade hops, its sessionable simplicity proves bigger isn’t always better. But make no mistake – the Wild West hasn’t gone mild. That same untamed IPA spirit thrives, and we reckon this’ll go down mighty fine.

Pours a hazy deep gold/pale amber producing 2+ fingers of frothy, slightly off-white, somewhat lasting head that leaves thin rings & clumpy sheets & webs of lace. Aroma is floral, citrus with malt tones of caramel & something that is grainy and chocolatey. Taste is floral, orange & a little tropical fruit hops, caramel malts with the same chocolate like hints of the nose. Finishes bittersweet developing into a pine resin, heavily bitter hop bite & slightly burnt aftertaste. Not much malt sweetness after mid-sip. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, slightly slick but creamy with a prickly finish & bitter, astringent aftertaste.

Pouring out a year old Lasso that I got for super cheap, $3.25 a sixer at Spec's here in Beaumont, TX. If you are prejudiced against old IPA's, Great Divide when kept in good conditions is always an exception. Both of their IPA selections here, Titan and Lasso, are killer and age very well. I've tried hundreds of beers and these are damn good. Maybe it gets better with age?

I had to take care to pour it slowly so it didn't foam up monstrously, others in the six taught me the hard way.

Yeasty sediment on the bottom, hazy gold hefeweizen look to it but very sour like, hoppy IPA smell. Literally shitting out hops. Taste follows suit, predictably - a light bodied, sour hopped mash that is pretty much chuggable. Lower alcohol makes this one an easy session beer. Sour tinge that stays on the back of the tongue. Refreshing after a long shift at work.

INCREDIBLE deal on these beers, Great Divide is killing it. I wish Texas had as good of breweries as Colorado does. Then again there are a lot of things about Colorado to be envious of. Hope to visit as soon as possible. Cheers!

Look: It pours golden with a haze to it. It has a moderate off white head.

Smell: It has aromas of stone fruit, a bit of floral, and some caramel.

Taste: It has flavors of stone fruit, caramel, floral, and a bit of pine.

Feel: It has a moderate body on the light wide with a moderately bitter finish.

Overall, it is an easy drinking session ipa with moderate malt backbone.

I have been really busy for about a week-and-a-half and I am so glad to able to CANtinue The CANQuest (tm) while watching Game 7 between the Preds & the Sharks.

From the CAN: "Great Minds Drink Alike". A cowboy with chaps, boots, spurs & a twirling lasso in silhouette against a cream background.

Upon Crack!ing open the CAN, I got some foaming through the vent & so I allowed it some calming time to get itself under CANtrol. A gentle Glug was therefore in order and an in-glass swirl raised a brief finger of foamy, tawny head with limited retention before falling back to wisps. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose smelled of both minty, pine hops and very earthy malt. My initial thought was that it was an EIPA. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste kind of followed the nose. It initially had a pleasant cool mintiness from the hops, followed by an earthy maltiness, almost like freshly turned soil. Again, I stand by my initial assessment that this was more towards a hopped-up EIPA than an AIPA. That said, as a self-avowed/self-described hophead, I had no problem with it. The hops were definitely present, but they gave me a break and shared their space nicely with the malt. I would have to characterize the finish as semi-dry since the malt did have a solid presence in this beer. I have a CANundrum in that it was a pleasant drink and with a relatively-low ABV, but I just found myself craving more hops.

Obviously, my original CANQuest (tm) review stands, but today is Su, 27 Aug 2017 & now, I have a bottle to add to me review.

From the bottle: "LASSO is the new frontier of India Pale Ale. Brewed with a robust roundup of Columbus, Centennial and Cascade hops, its sessionable simplicity proves bigger isn’t always better. But make no mistake – the Wild West hasn’t gone mild. That same untamed IPA spirit thrives, and we reckon this’ll go down mighty fine."; "Suggested Food Pairings: Barbecue beef brisket, pork green chili, baked beans, Tillamook medium cheddar, oatmeal chocolate chunk cookies."; "Lively Daring"; "Great Minds Drink Alike".

Having Pop!ped the cap, I began a gentle pour as is my wont these days. An glass-swirl raised a brief finger of dense, foamy, bone-white head with decent retention, leaving behind nice lacing as it fell. Nose had an earthy-sweet mintiness, like fresh, wet hops with caramel malt. Hmm. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste had a pronounced earthy mintiness combined with a caramel sweetness. Finish was dry and slightly bitter. I enjoyed it, but I clearly liked it much better from a CAN. YMMV.

Dark gold body; thick, white, sticky head; rings of lacing along the glass. Earthy spiciness to the aroma; somewhat pine-like; a bit of grain sweetness. Cereal grains with a good, all-around hop bitterness. Medium-heavy body; a bit prickly on the palate; sticky; mostly dry finish.

A solid IPA that doesn't break any barriers or exude uniqueness yet satisfies across the board.

Gold color with a white haze. Lumpy, lasting head. Large fluffy spots on the glass.

This is a well balanced IPA. I get the pale and crystal malt aromas with enough floral hop to create an interesting profile.

The flavor is a bit thinner than the smell indicates. The malt and body are both lighter than I expected. The hop is more bitter (less floral) on the tongue, leaving a long black pepper aftertaste. There are earthy notes throughout the tasting. Moderate carbonation.
