A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had an amber color and a clear texture. There was a half inch of foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A decent, but not spectacular, aroma of hops and a little malt.

T: Tasted of hops, a little bit of citrus, malt, and a some pine. This is an unbalanced flavor. It's overly hoppy, which doesn't give the other ingredients enough room to be effective. Other than this, it tends to be a little watery in the finish.

M: A fair amount of carbonation with a bitter mouthfeel and a watery finish. Light-bodied.

O: Great Divide has certainly done better work. This beer simply doesn't come off.

The beer comes in a bright rich sunset amber.

The aroma is lacking of grain and grass.

The flavor has citrus peel in the front, but then onto grass and a strong medicinal astringent bitterness on the back. The beer lacks flavor, but is easy drinking, except for that punch of bitterness in the back.

Reviewing from notes after drinking this one on 2/23/14. Enjoyed out of a brown 12 oz bottle with a bottling date of 1/9/14 stamped on the side of the label. And while it doesn't say "session IPA", the description on the label refers to its "sessionable simplicity", and at 5%, it's lower than your typical IPA in alcohol content. Poured into the Speigelau IPA-specific glass.

Appearance - This is a very pretty looking beer, with a body that pours crystal clear, with a jewel-like brassy hue that includes shades of amber, burnt orange and tarnished gold. A lazy stream of carbonation bubbles rises up from the etching on the glass, replenishing a towering three finger head of off-white foamy head. Retention is slight, with dissipation beginning to occur almost immediately, and leaving a healthy mottling of silky lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell - Unfortunately, the aroma isn't as enrapturing as the wonderful appearance. Somewhat bland notes of pale malt sit alongside herbal, grassy and floral overtones from the hop profile. There is a much more fleeting hint of some citrus, like generic zest, but it's hard to detect. This one is mostly grain and grass.

Taste - The hop profile comes through a bit more here, but on the side of bitterness and again with mild notes of grass and gentle floral characteristics. Citrus is even less present here than it was in the aroma, but the grain seems to come through, with overt notes of barley and whole grains that provide just a touch of sweetness to the overall dry characteristics.

Mouthfeel - Light bodied and moderate carbonation. Nothing particularly memorable.

Overall, a decent enough beer on its own, but as with so many in this "style", it's not interesting enough to make me want to grab more than one in a sitting, even though the lower alcohol content would allow me to do so without getting sloppy.
