12oz bottle poured into a tulip. No obvious date, but it looks like there's a batch number stamped near the bottom rim.
Appearance - Black body. Even the pour doesn't let light through. Medium-small brown creamy head with good retention and great lacing.
Smell - Coffee and chocolate hop and malt characters, respectively. Malt comes through as it warms.
Taste - Harsh bitterness upfront, quickly smoothed out by creamy sweetness. Subsequent sips are much more balanced toward the malt as the bitter lime-peel astringency takes a back seat. Warming alcohol underneath.
Mouthfeel - Luxuriously creamy and smooth. Slight astringency and alcoholic warmth underneath. The only noticable carbonation is in the head.
Overall Drinkability - Great wintertime sipper. Balanced well but not boring. Some boldness but not particularly complex for the style.
