look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5
Appearance: Deep, dark brown - some clarity around the edges - pours with a minimal, tan head, retains a small ring and leaves some streaks of lacing
Smell: Burnt grains and chocolate - tons of chocolate malt, dark chocolate, and coffee - grassy, piney, and citrusy hops - burnt, charred, and also roasty - some vegetal aromas - interesting, but not particularly complex
Taste: Burnt - burnt, roasty charred grains - chocolate malt, with some dark chocolate - burnt espresso, burnt caramel, vanilla - burnt bitterness and hoppy bitterness - pine, and damp citrus rinds - burnt starchy vegetable
Mouthfeel: On the low end of the heavy spectrum, oily, slick, and sticky, low carbonation
Overall: Beastly, but not epic
This is a good RIS, but compared to others in the style, it's not exceptional. Very burnt, very roasty, but not much else. Worth a try, but there are better, similarly accessible standards.
