Late '09 Vintage.
Let's see how this one matured, shall we?
Poured into a Guiness Extra Stout Pint

A ~ Very rich burnt oak color, with intensely small bubbles and fantastic lacing. 1/2 inch of hot chocolate head. Just incredible, as usual.

S ~ Sea Salt Caramel jumping right out of the glass. Can smell the hefty hand of hops still (surprisingly), as well Caramelized pecans and burnt malts. Little bit of chicory and dark rum. Good balance between going all-the-way-sweet and savory.

T ~ Lots of roasty malt character bleeding into very black coffee (subtle) dusty earth. The hop character is leafy with an almost woody dryness to it. Little bit of a brown-sugar oatmeal flavor that fades fast into dark-wheat toast. There's a whisper of bitter-cherry acidity that makes me want to consume, consume, consume. The caramel flavors I come to expect have all but matured into little hints throughout the beer. Quality.

M ~ Chewy at first, but swallows very clean. Not hot at all for a 9.5 %er (drinks like a standard stout). Sticky but not too much so, and I wouldn't consider it sappy either. Very balanced.

D ~ Overall I love how this one aged, and I'm glad I opened it when I did. I have a feeling it wouldn't have lasted another six months. The acidity that came out, as well as more dead-forest flavors was really intriguing.
One of the few Great Divide beers worth cellaring.

cheers!

March 2011 bottle. Opened July 2014.

A - Solid, almost bowling ball black body. Creamy milk chocolate head has great retention and lace.

S - An excellent nose, sweet and chocolately. Malted milk balls, deep milk chocolate, chestnuts, touch of burt coffee.

T - Opens smooth, bold, and round with milk chocolate, dark roast coffee, and thick caramel. The center drops out a little, but features nice roast grain and molasses flavors. Really nice dry roast finish.

M - Smooth with a light, well balanced carbonation. Medium-full body with a great coating on the back end.

O - Really enjoyable, and arguably the best of the entire series.
