Bomber that I purchased during a trip to Denver a while ago. The bottled on date is May 12, 2011. It is about 2.5 years old and has been kept cool up until now. I poured it into my beer goblet.
Appearance: Pitch black and pours almost the thickest I have ever seen on a beer (Cigar City Marshal Zhukov). A vigorous pour yields only a thin film of a head, but it does persist.
Smell: I know this one is not oaked, but I get a bit of wood that is subtle. I also get the usual dark roast, ash, and dried dark fruit (black cherry). A touch of cocoa without being overwhelming.
Taste: A syrupy molasses sort of cooked sugar taste is predominant here. Wood and smoke with a touch of ash. The flavor is very long lasting, well integrated. Subtle cocoa and dark fruit are mixed in as well.
Mouthfeel: A wonderfully thick mouthfeel with a long lasting finish. Light carbonation is just right.
Overall: A solid Imperial stout that is not too hard to get, even if I have to go to another state.
