Color is black and head is very nice two finger head. coats the glass like a snow flake. It's rich like butter!!! It definitely has a buttery oily taste to it. It has undertones of caramel and chocolate. Tastes like freshly cooked greasy choclotate chip cookies. Also a bit of fruits and a deep burnt malt flavor, along with some hops, and fruits.

Too rich to have more than one, this beer is thick and coats the throat well. Leaves a bit of alcoholic taste. Nice imperial stout made wery well for tasting, but def. not a session beer.

Bottled Nov-13. Drank March-14

Appearance: very viscous. pitch black not even allowing light or browning at the edges. a finger plus of a dark tan head that leaves a sticky lacing on the sides. needless to say completely opaque. pretty good looking imperial stout

Smell: greeted with caramel but closely followed by charred malts, espresso, earthy bitterness. some chocolate. very strong smell

Taste: i taste a little bit of caramel right up front but this is assaulted by darker stronger malts. char, espresso, dark rich chocolates. huge bitterness at the back end comes with earthy hops. leaves behind a mixture of espresso and char. No alcohol to be found

Mouthfeel: thick and sticky. warm and bitter

Overall: this is a great example of the style. unfortunately for me I am not the biggest fan of the espresso and hoppy stout flavors. next bottle I get is spending years in the cellar before i return to this one. Overall I would highly recommend this beer

22 oz brown bomber with a vintage date of 2003 on the label. Not to worry, @ 9.5% ABV this beer should age well.

Appearance: Pitch-black colour. A thick rise of brown foam wants to gush over, nice web like trail of lace down the glass.

Smell: Creamy vanilla, creamed coffee, vague berry fruitiness and a mild alcohol presence. Aromatic yet mellow.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Very creamy on the palate, smooth and slick in the mouth within the heavy full body. Soft charcoal, roasted twang and espresso. Balanced hopping with a mild citric flavour in the finish. More soft roasted character in the finish with a layered sweetness. Bit of yeast in the end and a drying roasted husk as well.

Notes: Without a doubt a tasty brew, tame but I like it that way. The alcohol sneaks up on you and there are so many subtle complexities to deal with that it makes it so worth the while.
