A: pours dark brown, with a huge and long-lasting rich espresso head that gives way to full lacing.
S: bitter chocolate, coffee, raisin, cherry, with piney hops
T: cocoa, bitter chocolate give way to sharply resinous, piney hops on the finish
M: low carbonation with a medium body
O: this is a classic for a reason, well worth having on occasion.

Dark cocoa notes, fairly sweet, with a touch of espresso.

Flavor is roasty malt, becoming fairly bitter at the finish. Slight sweetness, big dark, rich chocolate notes are decadent.

Been a long time coming for this classic. Here goes:

A: Pitch black. Leaves a large, dark head that has plenty of lacing, Good.

S: Roasted grains. A lot of dark chocolate and coffee. However, the bitterness is alleviated somewhat by dark fruit characteristics such as prunes and raisins

T: Taste is quite good. Lots of roasted coffee, dark soil, and bitter chocolate. However, it also contains lots of dark fruit (i.e., prunes, raisins) in the aftertaste; you know, the sweet, raisiny aftertaste characteristic of many imperial stouts.

F: Nice and thick. Great.

O: A great RIS. Contains the full spectrum of stout characteristics. Dark chocolate and coffee supplemented by lots of dark fruit. Great.

A - Black, opaque, with a brown head, fading slowly, fairly tight, with lacing.

S - Roast, chocolate, and boozy alcohol nose.

T - Very strong roasted malts, with chocolate and prune, raisin and burnt toast. The middle introduces a subtle umami hit of soy and smoke. Close turns more bitter, with black coffee acidity and a slight herbal hint. The bitter line lingers as a slow fade.

M - Silky, coating the tongue, with the drying partially clearing the weight, but a ghost of the beer rests on the tongue, and only fades out after several minutes.

O - A core RIS without a doubt, Yeti delivers depth, full flavor, silky mouthfeel, and an extraordinary visual presence. It is as big as its namesake. It hangs around a bit too long, but is so good you won't mind.

Such a beautiful pour I cried a little. Smells like dark chocolate. Tastes like the best year-round, easily available imperial stout on the market. I swear I don't work for them.

Whoa: I think the label says something about being intense and Great Divide isn't lying. Pours like a syrupy black-coffee. Not an overwhelming amount of head from this one--somewhat surprisingly--but it does have "off the charts" lacing. Taste is intensely dark, roasty, smoky, espresso-like, with some upfront sweetness and a lasting coffee bitterness at the close. Mouthfeel is very creamy and full; Filling and a pretty respectable kick to it. (I don't think I could drink more than 1, even if I were a huge fan.) In the end, probably not enough sustained and counterbalancing sweetness to really win me over as a big-time proponent, but I will give GD a thumbs-up for coming up with something that definitely makes a statement + has me extremely interested to try some of their other offerings: The oak-aged chocolate version of this will be on my wants list for sure.

I can't believe I never tried this. There was a lot going on with this stout that didn't have time analyze. Black strap molasses, dark chocolate, coffee, and maybe a hint of anise. Top notch.

L: Pours a bright brown so dark it is almost black under a 1” clingy tan head.
S: Chocolate with traces of bitterness.
T: Rich malts, chocolate, dark roast, traces of coffee, hints of dark fruit with a bitter chocolate finish.
F: Creamy full body with slightly below average carbonation.
O: A rich imperial stout. Even though the bottle lists 75 IBU the malt is king.

On tap @ Blue Dust

Appearance: Black with a one finger dark brown head. Yetis are among my favorite looking beers

Smell: Coffee, chocolate, slight smoke

Taste: This is a coffee foward RIS. Nice espresso notes with a chocolate, light caramel undertone and a substantial hop finish.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied; Goes down fine for almost a 10 percenter, but it's too hoppy to be exceptionally smooth

Overall: I expected more from this beer. It has a solid coffee base and overall good but not great aromas and flavors. The Mouthfeel is where this beer falls short. Quite bitter and expected more creamy and smooth. This is a good base beer, but i enjoy the other Yeti variations much more

12oz bottle. Not sure about temp. Pours pitch-black brown. Very little head. Smell is primarily coffee/espresso, as is taste. I liked the beer at first but it took on a distinct bitterness as it warmed that was a bit much for my taste. Mouthfeel is smooth and on thick side. If you like coffee and some bitterness in your beer this should be a winner.

Delicious bitter espresso taste but balanced out by big chewy and creamy mouthfeel. Feels like some iced frappe drink. And it's not a flavored, just an imperial. The hop and bitterness factor will probably scare off otherwise dark beer drinkers, but if you're a true beer lover you will like this one.

look - brownish black with a slight dark tan head and good lacing
smell - sweet dark chocolate some coffee and toasted wood and booze
taste - first thing I taste is coffee followed by the dark chocolate then with some bitter hops creeping up behind and a great toasty malt backbone to hold it all in place
feel - full body with slight carbonation that gives that slight bit even though its a fairly creamy feel.
Overall - Really enjoy this beer, really complex and has a lot going on.

Gorgeous dark ebony color with chocolate 1.5 finger head that lasted for a while. Hopy aroma and tasted as such. Definitely felt the carbonation as I swirled it around my mouth. The hopiness overpowered most other favors but I did get a slight sweet oaky aftertaste. Overall a nice beer that will definitely be enjoyed by most hop lovers.

Pours pitchblack. Dark fingerhigh foam. Mediumsize bubbles. Taste a bit strong, quite hoppy for a stout, even an imperial one. Not bad at all, allthough not the best in this style in my opinion. Nice overall.

Appearance-pours a large head, very dark almost black color with a dark brown tan head.
Smell- Sweet and Roasty with hints of chocolate
Taste- Once again chocolate notes with pretty strong hop flavor for a stout and a little boozy. Very well balance with a good finish on the back of the palate.
Mouthfeel-Full mouthfeel, that stays with you long in between tastes but it is a good taste that you like. Lite carbonation and very heavy as an imperial stout should be.
Overall- Love this beer, would not do anything to change it as it is very good. I drank it out of a 12oz snifter glass, it is like drinking a beer cognac.

The beer pours a nice brown and thick foamy head that takes a while to dissipate. The beer itself is an opaque black. Thee beer leaves some pretty substantial lacing on the glass.

The beer smell is fairly chocolatey with some roasted malt notes around the edges. The smell has a slight hop note to it but nothing too strong. It's just enough to balance against the chocolate and roast notes.

The beer taste is slightly similar. The beer taste still has the same strong chocolate notes with roasted malt adding a nice contrast. However, the hop presence is bitter and a bit stronger than the smell, which is strong enough to stand against the other notes. As a result, the aftertaste has a very nice and strong mixture of roasted malts and bitter hops.

The mouthfeel is fairy thick and creamy. The beer is heavy bodied but has a nice creamy feel to it. The carbonation is biting and adds a bit of texture to it.

Overall, the beer is pretty good and I highly recommend it. It may not be one of the strongest Imperial Stouts but it comes close.

Thick, black color with a caramel head about a finger and a half thick. Bitter coffee smell with hints of wood, maybe oak? Smooth front with a bitter aftertaste. Strong notes of Espresso coffee which make for a bitter stout.

Bought this beer for a recent staycation on a cold rainy day.

A: Thick, black color with a caramel head about a finger thick, about the color of North American Sasquatch fur. Foamy lacing down the sides of the glass.

S: Light, bitter smell with hints of oak. Unusually hoppy smell that was unexpected.

T: Smooth front with a bitter aftertaste. Strong notes of Espresso coffee with a bitterness uncommon of stouts. Elusive hints of smoky wood that I was unable to capture on camera.

O: Nice beer, but not my first choice. I'm a sucker for a nice thick and smooth stout and this provided an extra bite that might give me rabies but I doubt anyone will believe the story later. A nice way to experience something different without leaving the house.

at first i thought damn this is too bitter of an ending. I continued to drink and the complexity of this beer hit me. Its a well balanced and with personality, with taste. Before I knew it i finished and i wanted a bit more so I could unpack all the flavors in here. Overall a very good, strong beer. I can smell the chocolate now and i have a few more sips left.

Pours a thick, opaque brownish black with a dark mocha head that lingers. Strong chocolaty aroma. Malty yet bitter taste with notes of chocolate. Not much boozy taste for 9.5%. Smooth feel. Residual bitter aftertaste. Overall a great imperial stout.

Quality stout. A perfect beer on a cold night. This offers a strong, bold chocolate taste and very smooth. Great Divide is a quality brewery and this certainly lives up to their standards.

Darkest chocolate brown, with deep caramel color head.

Flavor is moderate, not as intense as the color or finish suggest. Well-balanced, well integrated, classic stout flavors, not the slightest hint of sweetness.

Nice rich mouthfeel.

Long, strong finish of coffee and bitter licorice. The finish is just... intense. More than I love, really; and my scoring reflects that. This is a super high quality beverage that I don't personally love.

2013 edition, 22 oz bottle, poured into a goblet.

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color with a quarter of a finger of caramel-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass and formed a few wispy clouds that collected atop the beer.

Aroma: Massive aromas of roasted malt, imparting notes of freshly baked dark bread, dark chocolate and a ton of hops.

Taste: Wow!! Strong, big, bold flavors of roasted malt up front, imparting notes of coffee, dark chocolate, caramel-like sweetness and beautifully balanced with some hoppy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Chewy and extremely smooth as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 9.5%, there is a very pleasant alcohol warmth on the palate.

Overall: Wow, what another damn excellent imperial stout! Big, bold flavors all wrapped up in a very creamy beer. Delicious!
