As expected, this beer poured a deep black color. The alcohol come through in both smell and taste, but is complemented nicely by the heavy malt tones. Incredibly drinkable for the 9.5 ABV. Perfect cold weather beer, my only qualm is that it does not do much to separate itself from its Imperial Stout siblings.

Bottle shared by jayhawk73. Thanks Jeff.

Served side by side with Oak Aged Yeti.

The beer is opaque and dark brown with a thin layer of beige head that fades rapidly. The aroma offers dark roast, licorice, hints of chocolate. Tasty beer, well balanced. Delicious roast character, though I prefer Oak Aged Yeti, which offers a bolder flavor and more complexity. Again, not as smooth as the oaked version, but still very enjoyable. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Overall, a solid beer.

12 oz bottle into my deschutes snifter. bottled on march 11, 2011.

a - pours a thick, greasy, dark brown, like used motor oil. gave me a thin cap of chocolate brown head that calmed to a thin film. spotty lacing.

s - roasted malt, molasses, tons of dark fruit, faintly vinous.

t - espresso like roasted malt with some faint chocolate notes. burnt toast, molasses. still has tons of hop character for being nearly a year old. a nice, almost piney bitterness rolls in slowly and hangs on the tongue for a while. finishes on the dry side. very rich and well put together.

m - full bodied with a formidable stickiness. almost too thick. lighter in carbonation. slight alcohol warming in the back of the throat.

o - untamed? not so much. imposing? absolutely. definitely one of the biggest flavors i have ever had in a ris. so rich i don't think i could have more than one bottle in a night. delicious and enjoyable though.

Appearance: Big tan head that dissipates quickly. Black chocolate color.

Smell: Bold, roasty. Somewhat sweet with very defined vanilla, coffee, and cocoa. Smells amazing.

Taste: Big roasted chocolate malt balanced perfectly with very piney hops. Very christmasy. Coffee and vanilla flavors come in second. Leaves a pleasant bitterness of coffee and hops. It's perfect.

Mouthfeel: Surprisingly light. Not too sticky at all. It's, again, perfect.

Overall: it's brilliant. I'll be back for more. I should also note that I like the simplicity of this one compared to it's oak aged brother.

Pours black with a small tan head.

Smells deeply of chocolate along with some licorice.

Taste follows the nose. Rich chocolate notes with an underlying, but not hot booze. Slight roasted malts, coffee, and licorice as well as some floral hoppiness.

Very smooth with lower carbonation. Not cloying at all and alcohol is well hidden.

One of the better readily available imperial stouts around. Very smooth and chocolately.
