Thanks are due to EgadBananas for providing this bottle. This was bottled on February 21, 2012, so this is still very young. Poured into a pint glass. Pours black with a two-finger length dark brown head that retains well. The head dissipates very slowly. Lacing is left down the glass as the head dissipates. There are big aromas of dark roasted barley malt and chocolate. It has a bready and slightly earthy smell. I can't detect the alcohol in the aroma, which is a plus for such a high ABV beer. The flavor follows the nose. The roasted malt flavor is very prominent and there is creamy chocolate in there as well. There's bitterness on the back end as well as roastiness. It's mildly sweet as well. I can pick up some of the alcohol, but it's masked very well. The body is full with adequate carbonation. It is creamy and smooth. The drinkability is very high. Overall, this is an excellent beer and yet another great RIS. For someone just getting into this style, this is one that should be recommended.

Bottled on 10/3/2011. Drank on 6/7/2012. Served in a Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Pours out very black and viscous with a nice 2-finger light brown head that retains pretty well. On the nose I get baker's chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits, and a slight herbal quality (from the hops?).

Flavor is spot-on for a RIS. Full bodied beer with a really nice, creamy mouthfeel. You get nice bittersweet chocolate and roasted malt on the front of the palate. As the flavors develop, bitterness takes command and the roastiness becomes more pronounced at mid-palate. The traditional burnt fruit flavors of a RIS come in and take over. These flavors intensify through the finish where they are joined by a nice warming alcohol presence. There's a nice balance here between sweet and roasty/bitter. Sadly, I still get that slight herbal quality on the finish that I seem to get with all versions of Yeti. I don't mind it, but it makes me think someone put lawn clippings in my beer. It's not as prevalent here as I have encountered in other Yeti beers. Perhaps the time in the bottle has smoothed it out some.

This is a legendary beer that is well-known to fans of big, roasty stouts. As with any huge RIS, I would not suggest this to someone new to the craft beer scene. Fans of the style should (and do) seek this out. I'll probably get another 4-pack for the cellar.

A - Pours thick black (quid pro quo here) and a lovely brown head than just leaves a ring around the glass. Great lacing.

S - Roasted malt abounds! Some coffee, sweet caramel and vanilla shining through.

T - Dark chocolate leading to a weak coffee flavor, roasted malt shines through as well.

M - Medium bodied, low carbonation. Really coats your mouth.

O - A great stout that delivers time and time again.
