This is probably the best example of a regular imperial stout in tne world. This is the style that this brewery is known for. Its absolultely dynamite. Tons of coffee flavors fighting woth deep dark chocolate. The flavors are dominating and take over your mout. This is a great afters dinner drink or pair it up with a chcoclate death dessert. I love this beer and the whole series. Great job great divide. You hit alot of homeruns with me.

Bottle dated 3/4/2011

A- Pours deep and dark as a black hole into my Bruery tulip glass. 2 1/2 fingers of khaki foam floats upon this dark cocoa brew, fades rather quickly... but leaves a ton of spider web lacing!

S- 85% cocoa bar, bitter black coffee, charred wood, vanilla and some fruity/citrusy hops punching thru! A touch of yeastiness comes thru as it warms up.

T- Jeez... this is brilliant! Ever time I drink a bottle of this I wonder to myself... how do they do it so consistantly!!! Tastes of licorice, really dark chocolate, espresso, and a decent piney bitterness from the hops.

M- Nice little bite of alcohol, a touch chalky and dry, a little bit sticky and chewy. Tastes like the best espresso brownie that you've ever had. Nice grapefruit/pine/hops kick that really hangs onto the tongue and blends well with the roasted chocolate and coffee.

O- Not many "everyday" stouts are better than this IMHO! Hell, this is better than most once a year, limited Imperial Stouts! I really wish this was available in NY where I live! It used to be... Please come back Great Divide... I miss you!!!

A: Black as night with a thin mocha colored head.

S: Faint at first, but as it warms a bit, notes of espresso, cocoa, wet earth and a touch of cinnamon emerge.

T: Roasted malt, dark chocolate, charred wood, espresso, a faint trace of hops and a touch of sweetness near the finish. Pretty great stuff.

12 oz bottle, bottled Sep 21 2011 (on label), purchased 12/2011 and well stored.

Poured into a Dogfish Head Signature glass.

Pours a ¼” head which quickly reduces to a thin cap. Typical of the style I think.
Deep black color, with a darkish tan head. Some sticky lace clings to the glass. Classic looks.

Big, distinct, immensely rich aroma of roasted malt and Turkish coffee. Black bread yeast. Rich caramel. Constantly changing and very enjoyable.

Crisp, luscious, full bodied entry on the palate of exceptionally rich roasted malt, followed by bitter dark unsweetened chocolate and dark caramel. Huge massive mouth feel, liquor like. As the ale warms just a little bite of alcohol comes out, and the ale is all the better for it. Fine small bubble carbonation rounds out this “complete package”. Delicious!

Long rich finish of roasted malts, and bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Clings to your mouth like glue.

What a wonderful ale. Everything that starts in the smell carries right thru the flavor and into the finish. As this ale warms everything “pops” out of the glass. Massive body and richness. Wow!
Of course the 9.5% ABV is buried under this avalanche of flavor and texture.
Did I mention that this ale is flat out delicious! A true pleasure to drink. One of the best.
Highly recommended!
