12oz bottle, procured in one of those upscale American grocery stores (Portland, this time) that make me seethe with envy every time I stand dumbfounded in one of their beer 'departments' (what a concept!)...

This beer pours an oily black, with very slight auburn highlights, and two fingers of densely foamy chocolate milk head, which leaves some thin limestone arch lace around the glass in its wake. It smells like s'mores - smoky chocolate, bready caramel malt, vanilla, molasses, and (analogy ends here) bitter leafy, earthy hops. The taste is big chalky, roasted choco-malt, vanilla bean cream, astringent woody esters, simmering tobacco leaf, scorned bitter pine hops, and a subtle booze warming. The carbonation is on the low side, but still in the game, the body pretty damned full in weight, smooth, and creamy, but tinged with some dastardly (depending on how you look at it) hop prickliness. It finishes as polarized as ever was - semisweet chocolate, and zesty pine resin hops.

A very well-wrought RIS - big all around, and solid in all respects - the hops overdose a somewhat unexpected, but still enjoyable foil to the base nature of this particular beast.

2007 YETI old bottle. Blue, White and Yellow mountains, wait...white mountains...yellow yeti!!!

poured into a Deschutes snifter

A - looks like used oil. dark brown. murky

S - chocolate, wood, oak and some sour berries. awesome aroma

T - sticks to the side of everything. outstanding! old chocolate, fruit, caramel and more caramel and tobacco...has been with me for 45 minutes.

O - nice find in South Chicago! someone had some idea about something good!! Age has done wonders for this RIS! I have 3 more I found and cannot wait to find any reason to pop one open
