HERCULES DOUBLE IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. HERCULES delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile. 85 IBUs.

A nice dark rusty pour with a nice thick head. Lacing was thick and lasted. Smell of citrus, especially grapefruit and floral. Flavor is lightly bitter with citrus flavor. A good brew. Especially great if you make it to Great Divide in Denver and get to enjoy it on tap. Great place!

Dark coppery amber in the Leffe tulip. Moderately sudsy with pleasing carbonation in the mouth. It's hard to get a read on the smell, which is more medicinal than beery. Hugely hopped, and leaves a woody, astringent taste on the tongue. Kind of a candy flavor, a Sugar Daddy dipped in quinine. That sweet and bitter combo is not too pleasing after a few sips. This one will have to go into stud service, goosing the hops on some less well-endowed ales.

This is my least favorite offering from this brewery, and I'm a big Great Divide fan. My favorite Colorado brewery, in fact. Label says bottled on Oct. 18, 2011.

22oz bottle dated 1/18/12 poured into a pint glass, not sure why i like my ipas/dipas in them but i do. anyway a transparent amber with an off white 1 finger head that shows great retention and is just stick icky! very malty in the nose with caramel notes fresh hops and some pine. the taste has a big malt profile that wrapped with caramel. fresh hops with resin, pine and nice bitter and nutty dry finish alcohol is well hidden. now that i think about it this beer has an oak barrel like characteristic. well balanced dipa. the mouth feel is top notch and the carbonation perfect for the style and for such a big beer its pretty easy to put down. overall this is well made and well balanced imperial ipa. ive waited to review for freshness reasons and i won't get much better than two weeks in the lone star state. nice job great divide you are fit for the gods and a leopard would be envious of the lace like printing this one leaves behind, rather unique.

A: Golden orange with little head, yet plenty of lacing.

S: I may have to get my nose checked out, because this is the third beer in a row i want to say smells like grapefruit. slight hint of pine too.

T: Tart hoppy citrus pine

M: Coarse

O: A great beer, but not necessarily a great double IPA
