Finally drinking, and reviewing this beer, after finding it at less than a month old for the first time. For whatever reason this is the first time I've ever found a remotely fresh bottle on the east coast.

Not the best looking beer, kind of a murky dark orange, verging on brown, with a modest amount of floaties. Despite pouring aggressively I can only muster a small head that dissipates quickly and very little lace. Nose balances caramel and candy fruits, some sweet bready malt, orange and floral hops.

Balanced and assertive flavor. Everything is turned way up but nothing overpowers anything else. Lots of bitterness from resinous, fruity hops; you get orange and apricot and a vague aspirin undercurrent, less floral than the nose indicates. Big and burly malt character mitigates the bitterness in the aftertaste but still dries out decently and avoids the cloying sweetness of similar old school DIPAs. Alcohol is noticed to some extent but what do you want, it's 10%. Not fusel by any means. The booze contributes to the balance in an important way and also keeps the sweetness at bay.

Medium full bodied and nicely -appropriately carbonated. Not sticky or overly full, which helps the drink ability. Overall a very strong example of the last generation of doubles; I feel like we've gotten away from this kind of beer to some extent with the advancements of Hill Farmstead, TG, RR, etc etc. still would recommend this one pretty highly unless you are looking for nothing but hops without balancing components. This beer is highly hopped and bitter but has more going for it than just that.

Would I drink this very often? No, but I would absolutely buy it again if it's fresh and I'm in the mood for something burly and powerful.

Somehow never reviewed this before. Tap at tavern in the square Northboro.

Nice creamy smaller head fades semi slowly with painted glass lacing, semi clear semi hazy dark amber copper tan color.

Nose brings nice hops, some citrus, candied orange peel, bit fruity, little floral spicy note, dried stone fruits, candy sweet malt.

Taste starts a little malty, mild caramel sweet candy malt, not really syrupy, with light touch of booze warmth. Then hops, very bitter, fruity candied dried apricot and stone fruits, light citrus, little spicy floral hop, faint pine and resin. Nice balance despite being huge. Finish is drier with a bit more alcohol and mild burn, big spicy hops lingering with light candied fruits.

Mouth is med to heavier bod, little thick almost syrupy, decent carb, some warming booze.

Overall very nice, great balance even with a huge beer, alcohol starts hidden fairly well but increases as it warms and dries, decent hop profile, nice malt base, quite enjoyable for a big beer.

Beautiful looking beer. Didn't get a lot from the nose, but may just be me or sinuses. Oddly enough, I got melon and a smokiness in the flavor.

Part of the variety Big Show case. Bottled on date of Jan 16, 2015. Poured into large tulip for review.

Appears dark copper to light Amber with large persistent head. Noticeable lacing clings to the glass sides. Noticeable hop or yeast particles suspended in the beer. Has that Great Divide house beer smell. Noticeable aromas of pine, citrus hops with supportive malt backbone. Some orange rind aromas. Sweet malts definitely come through in the nose, most likely crystal malts.

Quick hit of 85 IBUs then orange & citrus hop flavors. Sweet crystal malts then lend a generous balance to counter any off kilter bitterness. Noticeable alcohol warmth but doesn't drink like a 10% ABV beer. I really dig how the flavors meld together reminding me of melon, pineapple, and some tropical fruit.

Drinks about medium to medium full as the malts definitely give this beer more residual sweetness than a West Coast Double IPA would give you.

Overall, an extremely balanced and drinkable beer. Great Divide nails it again with this one. Easily one of my Top 5 breweries.

The beer pours a nice white and creamy white head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is a clear deep amber color.

The beer smell has very malty nose. The smell is a nice combination of hops and a sweet malt backbone. The hops are a bitter and, yet, not completely overwhelming. The smell overall pretty balanced.

The beer taste is very balanced as well. The taste has a sweet malt backbone with a very prevalent and strong hop taste. The hop profile is fairly bitter and a little bit earthy.

The mouthfeel is pretty good. The beer is heavy bodied with a surprisingly light feel and a bit of carbonation to keep it from being too thick. The feel is pretty smooth as it goes down.

Overall, this is fantastic beer and one that should be on everyone's list. The beer is both hoppy and balanced, which is not very common. I definitely recommend getting this one.
