HERCULES DOUBLE IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. HERCULES delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile. 85 IBUs.

Somehow never reviewed this before. Tap at tavern in the square Northboro.

Nice creamy smaller head fades semi slowly with painted glass lacing, semi clear semi hazy dark amber copper tan color.

Nose brings nice hops, some citrus, candied orange peel, bit fruity, little floral spicy note, dried stone fruits, candy sweet malt.

Taste starts a little malty, mild caramel sweet candy malt, not really syrupy, with light touch of booze warmth. Then hops, very bitter, fruity candied dried apricot and stone fruits, light citrus, little spicy floral hop, faint pine and resin. Nice balance despite being huge. Finish is drier with a bit more alcohol and mild burn, big spicy hops lingering with light candied fruits.

Mouth is med to heavier bod, little thick almost syrupy, decent carb, some warming booze.

Overall very nice, great balance even with a huge beer, alcohol starts hidden fairly well but increases as it warms and dries, decent hop profile, nice malt base, quite enjoyable for a big beer.

Beautiful looking beer. Didn't get a lot from the nose, but may just be me or sinuses. Oddly enough, I got melon and a smokiness in the flavor.

Part of the variety Big Show case. Bottled on date of Jan 16, 2015. Poured into large tulip for review.

Appears dark copper to light Amber with large persistent head. Noticeable lacing clings to the glass sides. Noticeable hop or yeast particles suspended in the beer. Has that Great Divide house beer smell. Noticeable aromas of pine, citrus hops with supportive malt backbone. Some orange rind aromas. Sweet malts definitely come through in the nose, most likely crystal malts.

Quick hit of 85 IBUs then orange & citrus hop flavors. Sweet crystal malts then lend a generous balance to counter any off kilter bitterness. Noticeable alcohol warmth but doesn't drink like a 10% ABV beer. I really dig how the flavors meld together reminding me of melon, pineapple, and some tropical fruit.

Drinks about medium to medium full as the malts definitely give this beer more residual sweetness than a West Coast Double IPA would give you.

Overall, an extremely balanced and drinkable beer. Great Divide nails it again with this one. Easily one of my Top 5 breweries.

The beer pours a nice white and creamy white head that dissipates quickly. The beer itself is a clear deep amber color.

The beer smell has very malty nose. The smell is a nice combination of hops and a sweet malt backbone. The hops are a bitter and, yet, not completely overwhelming. The smell overall pretty balanced.

The beer taste is very balanced as well. The taste has a sweet malt backbone with a very prevalent and strong hop taste. The hop profile is fairly bitter and a little bit earthy.

The mouthfeel is pretty good. The beer is heavy bodied with a surprisingly light feel and a bit of carbonation to keep it from being too thick. The feel is pretty smooth as it goes down.

Overall, this is fantastic beer and one that should be on everyone's list. The beer is both hoppy and balanced, which is not very common. I definitely recommend getting this one.

Reviewed from last night's notes. Beautiful orange-gold color with great head and lacing. This beer does what a lot of DIPA's cannot do, it balances an amazing amount of hops and a nice malt backbone quite nicely!!!

Brass, copper color. Small, foamy head. Delicious nutty, malty flavor. Very crisp on front palate.

This was a very exceptional IIPA.

L - Nearly completely opaque, dark almost ruby golden with trickles of carbonation flowing up from the sides and base of the glass. Microscopic bits of yeast floating throughout. Poured vigorously with a one finger head that dissipated quickly.

S - The scent of the beer was nothing to write home about. Bits of malt, alcohol, fruity and piney. Was not overpowering and towards the end did not smell overly pleasant to me.

T - The taste is what makes this beer great. Rushes of bread and malt with traces of the fruit that was from the scent following suit. The malt was also present which was tasty and a good balance. The alcohol was certainly apparent, but not overpowering in any way. The warmer it got the more you could taste for sure.

F - Much 'thicker' than most DIPAs I've tried, but still delicious.

O - This was a good beer, a bit expensive for the 4, but good. I will probably purchase again but with all of the other options I would probably go for something a little lighter, more crisp and a bit more refreshing in this style.

Not fresh, so ratings likely skewed, especially since I tend to love double IPAs.

Bottles about 6 months old and may be passing?
Was not blown away by this one at all being so highly rated, now granted I've had some great ipa's lately that I am comparing this to. I got more malt than hop and not a clean fresh finish that I like.
Think this one was purely preference on my part bringing down the score, and I did drink all four bottles over four nights as a reference.
Would love to ,
retry fresh or draught.

Just Wow. I am really not the biggest IPA guy but this beer was just mind blowing. I hate an overly bitter beer. This beer has a biiter hop bite but the malt and floral balance that follow in the second mouthful makes one of the best beer experiences ever. Buy it, all of it.
