Reviewed from notes.
Pours out a typical slightly hazed orange-amber color with two fingers of soft fluffy off-white head that lasts for about three minutes, leaving medium amounts of lacing behind on the glass. Medium body and carbonation levels.
Smells and tastes of caramel, toffee, pine resin, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon peel, light amounts of herbal tea, and a touch of earthy dryness in the finish. Honestly, I was somewhat pumped up by the hype around this one before trying it, and I feel somewhat disappointed as a result. I still fail to see what all the fuss is about. It's just yet another typical well-made IPA in a market already over-saturated with the style with nothing in particular that makes it stand out above the rest.

Hercules Double IPA
Pours copper with creamy white head that cascades well and sticks around for a while. Strong hoppiness right away, but smooth for how bitter it is. Citrusy, pungent hop flavor.
A: Coppery red, with white head that dissipates quickly but laces
S: Very little hop pungency. Very low aroma overall.
T: Hoppiness is much more reserved, does not stick around long, only on the opening notes of the taste. Quickly kicks in with a smooth, somewhat sweet, malty flavor. Bitterness on the end, but not strong at all.
M: Carbonation is light, overall pretty smooth and almost a bit velvety
D: Drinkable with nice spicy foods; not nearly as pungent overall as it was before, but not bad or skunky at all

A hazy medium orange color. Off white head. Fair retention. Great lacing.
Lately, all double IPAs smell the same to me. It has that strong, sweet, hoppy aroma. Gives you a little hint to what you're in for.
In the flavor: smooth bitterness. Quite balanced. Malty sweetness. Significant hop presence. An overall soft, yet aggressive flavor.
A heavy, thick chewy mouthfeel
Nicely done. The double IPA market is hit and miss for me, but I would buy this beer again.

Pours hazy copper color with ridiculously big 3 finger foamy tan head with a ton of tight bubbles in it that faded very slowly and left very good foamy lacing with rings and trails sticking to the sides.
Smells of big citrus hops and piney hops up front, with grapefruit, orange peel, lemon zest, tangerine, pineapple, pine cone/piney hops, floral hops, grains, light brown sugar, caramel, biscuit, toffee, fruity notes like apple or pear, light spices and enough malt backbone to make it perfectly balanced for a DIPA. Not the strongest aroma for a DIPA, but a damn fine smelling beer.
Tastes sweet and hoppy, with piney hops/pine cone, grapefruit, orange peel, lemon, tangerine, pineapple, citrus hops, maybe some mango or guava, floral hops, brown sugar, caramel, toasted grains, burnt biscuit, toffee, fruity notes like pear or apple, tea leaf, herbs and spices like coriander, pepper and light cinnamon, and a mild boozy finish; the hops are very sweet and juicy, but the ABV shows up pretty much throughout the brew. The warming effect lets the malt/grains level it out a bit and makes it quite drinkable for such a high alcohol level.
Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, with a medium chewy body, very mild carbonation and a bitter finish that is very sweet with an alcohol burn; the only knock on this beer might be the heat in the finish, but it was tolerable to me and not a major issue.
Overall a very good strong brew that I recommend trying; it had been 5 years since I first tried this and I will seek it out whenever I can find it. Expect to catch a buzz from one 12 oz bottle, this is potent stuff.
