Notes/Commercial Description:
HERCULES DOUBLE IPA is not for the faint of heart. It is, however, fit for the gods. HERCULES delivers a huge amount of hops from start to finish. Its hefty backbone of nutty, malty sweetness balances its aggressive hop profile. 85 IBUs.

Ppoured from tap into pint glass.
Pours a hazy orangey golden. Thick sticky white foam and lacing.
Smells of sweet hops...a bit of candied sugar and slight banana.
Taste is again, sweet hops. Floral and citrus notes mixed with some tropical fruit and a slightly bitter pine finish.
This was a fantastic brew. So crisp and the slight sweet flavor really makes this stand out from other DIPAs. Im glad I got to have it on tap as well.

Poured from 22oz. bomber (bottling date 5/2/11) into Brooklyn tulip glass, for this live review.

A - One finger of fine foam, which dissipated quickly, leaving little lacing. Colour is a rich, dark apricot-amber. Noticeably cloudy.

S - maltier and sweeter than many double IPAs and with the definite presence of alcohol, yet still wonderfully floral and hoppy.

T - follows suit. Caramel, burnt sugar, even molasses. The bitterness from the hops is certainly present from start to finish, as the bottle promises, but they're singing backup rather than lead - and the alcoholic sweetness makes its presence felt as well. An interesting, subtle balance.

M - Effervescent rather than bubbly, thick, rich, coated the tongue. Helps the taste linger.

O - Bottling date should be noted - the hop presence has faded, leaving a beer which has the warming characteristics of a stout rather than the panache of an IIPA. Atypical, but delicious.

12oz bottle.

A- Very nice copper colour, great clarity. Nice head when poured right but it leaves near to no lacing

S- Nicely balanced mix of citrusy, flowery and resiny hops hint of pine, very nice and refreshing

T- A malt taste in this one, not just hops: caramel and a mild sweetness from the malts that lingers with the hop which beings a nice balance.. Then the hops: mixed notes of resiny, floral and citrusy hops but are not as strong as in other ipas i have tried.

M- Medium to full body. Very nice carbonation, expecially on the palate; a bit more on the juicy side on the tongue. Warming feel in the aftertaste.

O- The ABV is nice and hidden so be careful with this one, this is very good and has a nice balanced taste,,,definitely worth a 4pk try :)

A copper coloured beer with a slightly offwhite head. About one thumb. Reasonable retention. Lots of floaties.

The aroma is intense. I have never had a double IPA in my life and I have only had a single AIPA before so to me it was quite intense.

Big American hop varieties aroma in here.
Pine, citrus and mango. I also get some caramel malts to balance this. Smells great. Now I just hope it won't be too bitter.

The taste is interesting. There are sweet fruity flavours and there is a hefty hop bitterness in here too. I should have had this a little colder. I took it out of the fridge and let it sit for hours.

Yea I like the fruitiness of this beer, the aftertaste however is rather bitter for my taste. After a while you get used to it and it becomes more balanced and it becomes much more mild and all of a sudden I like it alot more. I don't get much alcohol either by the way.

This beer is rather creamy, medium body and reasonably well carbonated. But it would be better without all the floaties.

Overal a nice beer if a little bitter. I would love to try the Titan IPA for something less hoppy. A good introduction to the style I assume. Unfortunatly the offical import of Great Divide to the Netherlands will stop in the near future.
