The beer pours a beautiful deep, dark black color with a thick frothy brown head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is awesome. It has a rich black and chocolate malt scent with a vanilla oak barrel aroma; very nice. The taste is great. It has an intense, malty flavor that boasts of black, chocolate, and roasted malts along with loads of hops in the finish. The oak aging adds a mellow vanilla quality. It goes down easy and finishes dry and earthy. The mouthfeel is good. It is a full bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is one of the best imperial stouts I've tried. It is so flavorful; a pleasure to drink.

Aroma: Very dark chocolatey smell.

Appearance: Pours very dark, like tar.

Taste: Sweet and bitter tastes at the same time.

Palate: Thicker than most stouts on the tongue, but overall nice feel.

Overall: Excellent stout, but a little heavier than I'm used to.

Appearance - Pours deep and inky black with a finger's worth of head that evokes imagery of tanned leather. Fair retention, resulting in a broken layer of surface suds. Very little in the way of lacing.

Smell - Aroma hits on equal notes of chocolate, dark roast and oak woodiness. Light hints at vanilla.

Taste - Hits on baker's chocolate and deep roast coffee upfront. Big, woody oak notes, especially mid-taste. Charred wood, earthiness and roasted malt in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Full-bodied with low carbonation. Lightly syrupy. Not quite as smooth as expected, but still goes down easy enough.

Overall - This is a really good beer, great even, but doesn't quite hit on the upper echelon of impys for me. Maybe it's too much woodiness. Maybe it's better when fresh? Whatever it is, just doesn't quite do it for me like the best impys do.

Aroma: Chocolate coffee alcohol, with a little soy sauce on top.

Appearance: Pours a dense beautiful black, with minimal head, and a quarter inch of tan foam.

Taste: A very light sweetness up front, with a lightly bitter, medium sour, teaser sitting on the tongue.

Palate: This stout has a light body, thin, slick. oily feel to it with very soft carbonation.

Overall: Very good Imperial Stout, very drinkable and hides the 9% very well.
