A - Pours completely black. For some reason I was surprised how dark it poured. It liberated a dark brown head that slowly faded to leave a nice crown of lacing.

S -Roasted malt, Coffee, bitter sweet chocolate, faint oak, vanilla, toffee and dark fruits. A little boozy, but daddy likey.

T - Great! Similar to the nose, but the oak comes through more and there is a little hop presences that asserts itself.

M - Full bodied, but easy to drink. It has that slight oily and chewy feel to it, but no overly so. Carbonation is very sparse and the booze sneak through nicely.

O - Really a great beer. I hung onto this one for a year and it is really quite wonderful. It has great complexity which really comes out as it warms.

Bottled 9/11/2012, poured into a teku

A- Pours deep, dark and black with a one-finger creamy dark tan head that retains decently, leaving some nice lace behind

S- big quaff of chocolate milk and dark chocolate bar up front, aromas of malted milk balls and slightly smoky malt, dark fruit and licorice, a hint of hop bitterness and chili heat, oak and more chocolate on the finish, impressive!

T- smoky chocolate malt mixes with some dark fruit notes, cherry juice, peppery chili, and coffee. More chocolate with oak and a hint of vanilla on the finish, with a coffee linger

M- medium viscous body with low carbonation produces a mouthfeel that is pure silk, leading to a velvety finish with a slight hint of alcohol warmth on the linger

O- the year and a half of cellaring has worked wonderfully for this one. Everything seems to mesh so well, with the chocolate notes taking center stage. Loved the malted milk ball aroma as well.

BTL date Sept 11, 2012
Rich chocolate torte pour with minimal heading.

Initial nose of malt, black coffee, sweet cream, dark cocoa and hint of clove.

Strong hop presence is dry with smoky oak notes. Sweet cream, vanilla and dark chocolate dominate. Chocolate frosting coming to mind. Coffee ground evident.

Mouthfeel is of dry oak, dark cocoa, and black coffee coating the tongue and lingering. I know I mentioned pleasant earlier but this is very forward and unabated.

Overall a nice stout that you would love for the bittering and drying effects. This is not really for the sweet tooth. Younger bottles tend to be raw and this is one to stow away for awhile. Young version I would give it an overall 3.5. An unrefined brew that can broken but still brash for the liking.
