A - Pitch black with dark caramel head that seems to linger throughout the entire glass. Sticky lacing.
S - Sweet caramel malt. Chocolate and vanilla come through with some oakiness. Definite hop presence. No alcohol smell whatsoever.
T - Sweetness balanced well with hop bitterness. Taste follows the smell with sweet malt flavors of caramel, chocolate, vanilla with a woody character. The hops are present throughout. Finishes with a pleasant hoppiness. Not overly bitter. Very woody--maybe too much.
M - Lighter in body and moderately carbonated. I prefer my imperial stouts to be thick and chewy. The body on this one is a little too thin.
D - Not much alcohol present making this very drinkable. Not as filling as others.
I'm just not that impressed with this one. I don't think it ranks among the best in the Russian Imperial Stout category. The flavor is interesting but I feel that the oak is over done. Good, not great.
