Poured a dark brown/mahogany color with a tall, but short lived, cocoa colored heard. No cap was left once the head receded and there was little to no lacing on the glass.
Smell was exactly like malta. Sweet, caramel-y, lots of malts coming through. No roast or fruits whatsoever, no oak, no hops.
Taste was much, much better. Very rich chocolate flavors, cherries and plums, a slight touch of oak, with an aftertaste that reminded me of dark chocolate covered cherries.
Medium-full body with light carbonation. Thick enough to leave a coat and with just enough carbonation to clean it. Absolutely perfect mouthfeel.
I think this one may have aged either a bit too long or just barely not enough. It was good, but I have a feeling 5 years is not a good time for it.
