Picked up this mysterious delight along with b33rfaaan at one of our local bottle shops. Surprised when I got home to find out it was bottled in March of 2009; disappointed I hadn't noticed this first.
A: Small head that disappears rather quickly. Initial thought was this reminds me of Coca Cola. Minimal lacing, deep reddish brown, but still clear.
S: Molasses and toffee. No detectable hops - a byproduct of its age? MOderate alcohol aroma.
T: AVerage duration, moderate sweetness. No hops, but it seems to have aged rather well.
M: Medium body, slightly metallic finish, soft carbonation with this texture.
D: Despite the 'low' marks, I did find this brew to be rather enjoyable. It was mellow and when I offered the fizzy-yellow beer loving wife a taste, she asked for a follow up taste later on. Maybe that says enough.

a pretty good porter here, very much in the english style. i found it to be a bit sweet and a bit under carbonated for my tastes, but otherwise its quite good. medium brown, crystal clear, with a ruby red glow in the light. not much head on it. the nose and taste both are chocolate malty and sweet, amber beer sweetness, an odd sensation in a porter, which i usually look at as being dryer and more clean. it has a slightly watered down texture too, which surprises me in this dark colored brew with so much residual sugar. its a little generic overall, a beer i have tasted a thousand times, nothing super distinct about it at all. that said, the flavors work well together and its a rather true to style porter. more carbonation would make it outstanding, but it drinks a little heavy without it. one and done for me.
