I picked up this while in Cincinnati. Pour was a soupy dark black color. The head was very tall and sudsy. I couldn’t even pour it all in my glass at first. There are some color distortions when tipped or held to the light. More of a brown color. The head has an off white but mostly tan color and limited lacing but still there.

The smell is slight with some coffee and more of a richer dark chocolate flavor. Some limited sweeter chicory notes are present as well.

The taste is rich. A rich chocolate flavor that becomes more prominent as it warms. Other notes of coffee are more noticeable at first but decrease over time. Overall the malt is the most nominate of flavors but other noticeable characteristics come out more. There is a sweet almost milky quality at first. Also as it warms more of the earthy hopes are present. I think I can detect Northern Brewers as well.

The beer is really carbonated which gives a zingy taste to it. Almost makes it taste watery. But this flavor is decrease over time. And then that carbonation flavor turns into a more smooth creamy flavor.

For future, I suggest to let this beer breath when tasting. Its worth it.

a pretty good porter here, very much in the english style. i found it to be a bit sweet and a bit under carbonated for my tastes, but otherwise its quite good. medium brown, crystal clear, with a ruby red glow in the light. not much head on it. the nose and taste both are chocolate malty and sweet, amber beer sweetness, an odd sensation in a porter, which i usually look at as being dryer and more clean. it has a slightly watered down texture too, which surprises me in this dark colored brew with so much residual sugar. its a little generic overall, a beer i have tasted a thousand times, nothing super distinct about it at all. that said, the flavors work well together and its a rather true to style porter. more carbonation would make it outstanding, but it drinks a little heavy without it. one and done for me.

It looks right for a porter, though it's got some lightness to the body and doesn't appear to have quite so much texture as the typical American-style, more robust porter. The tan head is retained fairly well after reaching one finger's height, though it gets a little wispy, and it manages a goodly amount of sticky lacing in patches.
Some chocolate is firm on the nose, on the sweeter side of bittersweet with some creaminess. There's an interesting near-tartness hiding. Roast is there, though not as prominent as it is in many of the style, and there's something like nuttiness underneath.
The taste is a little sweeter, a little creamier, and a little richer, all while allowing the roast to carry it without any acrid edge. There's a bit of coffee, and some earthiness comes into the finish even as a touch of balancing hops come out.
Despite the question in the look, this is a nice, full, rich porter with a full body and a smooth flow.

Appearance: Deep, almost opaque brown color with a massive, dense, and persistent light brown head. The head notably roils, even with a gentle pour. Patchy, sticky lacing adorns the glass walls.

Aroma: Coffee, chocolate, and roasted malt are prominent in the aroma.

Taste: Strong coffee and bitter chocolate flavors fuse with smoky undertones for a very smooth, rich taste. The hops are quite subtle and understated.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, almost creamy, very pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Well-made and very drinkable.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown long-neck glass bottle, served in a Sam Adams Boston Lager sensory glass.
