Got this from Jason on his way through to Kalamazoo.

A: Golden-amber color with good head formation and retention. Plenty of carbonation and lots of particles (yeast and hops I assume).

S: Weak malt and flat hops. Jason says it reminds him a wet dog. I begin to wonder if we have an old bottle...

T: Really muted hops. Decent maltiness, but the hops are so bland and off-putting that we couldn't finish our pours.

M: Really nice carbonation and medium body give this a very nice mouthfeel.

D: Really nice body, but the poor hops taste put a damper on this one for me.

A : Pours a hazy golden color with a good white head

S : A citrusy/floral smell

T : Starts with a citrus hop flavor and keeps going with the hop bitterness. It doesn't have a good balance between malts and hops

M : Medium mouthfeel

D : Not one I would get again. It needs more balance to it

Served in pint glass at Smokin' Joes in Pittsburgh, PA on 11/23/07.

A - Clear, amber/orange body with one-finger of frothy, white head that mostly diminished and left a fair amount of lacing around the glass. Thin density with not much carbonaiton at all.

S - Traces of sweet caramel, some graininess and some burnt maltiness. Hops are a mix of flowers, perfume and some citrus as well. Not a very strong hoppy nose for the style.

T - Lightly sweet and moderately hoppy at first, with a fairly long bitter finish. Nothing spectacular.

M - Light to medium bodied with some oily hops. More watery than sticky. Virtually no carbonation at all. Slightly metallic, bitter finish.

D - Eh? Pretty run-of-the-mill offering. Again, I'd like to try a bottle with a freshness date to re-evaluate this brew.

Served on draught into a Great Divide stemgoblet at the Great Divide tap room yesterday. Cost was $4.00. Reviewed from notes.

A: Pours a 1.5 finger head of nice cream, fair thickness, and average retention. Colour is a textbook copper.

Sm: Hoppy, with very light toasted malt. A mild strength aroma.

T: Pleasantly hoppy without too much bitterness. Well balanced and built, but not bold or inspired. Simple but pleasant. Not too bitter, though the finish needs work. Malt-heavy for the style.

Mf: Smooth until the coarse finish (on account of the bittering hops), and wet throughout. Fairly complementary of the flavour in a general sense.

Dr: Quite drinkable, but largely unremarkable for the style. I wouldn't have it again. It's okay.

Pours beautiful copper/gold with nice inch of white foam. Nose is bold, grassy, funkiness. Some citrus peel and melon are detected as well. The flavor definitely picks up that dank grassiness in a big overwhelming way. There is some fruitiness in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is decent with good amount of carbonation. IMO it drinks heavy for what I would classify an APA. Ultimately it just didn't do it for me. Lacked nothing in terms of flavor but the flavor just didn't work on my palate. Far too one dimensional with a dank mulchiness that struggled to achieve any complexity.

The colour is pale amber with a tint of gold; the three finger head is compact and yellowish. Lots of lacing.

The smell is hoppy with a sweet note of citric fruits and a creamy bitterness. Some dough and a hint of cat pee.

The taste is hoppy with American notes of grape fruits, cream cookies, and a touch of barbeque meat. The bitterness is medium strong and a little sharp/sour. The aftertaste is a bit alcoholic with some citric chemical bitterness.

The carbonation is medium strong, the bubbles medium sized. The liquid is a bit light.

An unbalanced and tired APA, perhaps not as fresh as the name implies.

Thanks to fbm115 for sharing this one.

A - Amber in color, decent head

S - Piney hops

T - Big malt presence, highly roast with a slight hop bite. The hops are far too piney though and there is no balance to the hop bouquet.

M - Medium-high carbonation and medium in body.

D - Not that good. Too piney, not a great beer from Great Divide. Very disappointed by this one.

Picked up a bottle of this, could not resist the label nor the style.

Pours a hazy deep golden with a rough skimming of foam on top, though it's thinning is quick.

The aroma is of harsh grass and alfalfa and even a little sharp pine. Sadly, none of the pleasant citrus is left and sharpest qualities are left.

The taste is much the same. Decent malt body that lets the hop shine, but the hop profile is kind of sharp. I'm not sure what varietals were used in the hopping, but they tend to focus on the grassy and bitter flavors without any floral or citrus kiss, and instead the notes are closer to the skunk (but with a much larger hop) of a green-glass beer.

Still, I don't mind it, but I would consider using a different hop varietal to brew with next September.

A nice pale ale, but a little over the top on the hop bitterness. Compared to a Sierra Nevada or Dale's Pale Ale, this one has more of bitter bite. Now that's a personal preference, but I prefer something more balanced and less jarring. So I'll stick with Sierra and Dale's for this beer style.
