Poured from tap into pint glass. Enjoyed this after a 12 hour shift. Poured a dark orange color. alittle haze to it but not much. The smell had a little more ripe fruit smell then a dry hopped IPA. Flavor was super well balanced with a hops and ripe tangerine. I was very impressed with this beer. One of my favorite offerings from great divide. Would have had about 3 more but I was too tired.

Pours a clear reddish amber, bordering on coppery, with a fine-bubbled, barely off white head. Richly hoppy aroma has grapefruit and spicy hints. Flavor is quite hoppy but not at all bitter, with hints of evergreen and sour orange. Smooth yet lively and fizzy texture leaves behind a nice tingle.

Pours deep amber gold with very little head and of course nothing to retain. Laces well.

Pine nut hops in the nose. All pine with only a hint of faint dry citrus.

Hits extremely hoppy and bites hard after that. Sweet but tart and dry in the middle with a green piney finish. Very nice combination.

Medium body, just right for the style and taste.

Great drinker, especially for hops. If hops aren't your thing, then stay away.

Great Divide's Fresh Hop Pale Ale, poured on tap into a pint glass. A clear orangish color with a soapy off white head and alot of lace.

Aroma pretty hoppy as one might expect. Just a hint of the underlying malt.

Flavor is marked with an intense bitterness. Grapefruit-like, but much more bitter and less sweet. Has a juiciness to it as well, though quite bitter. Earthy stinging hops steal the show.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied while being semi-viscious. Hop presence feels like the enamel on my teeth is being stripped away. Dry.

Drinkability rates pretty good. This beer is a palate crusher and very hop-forward. More like an IPA than an APA.

On-tap at Flying Saucer Raleigh on Dec. 3 served in a standard pint glass and reviewed from notes. The beer was served a crisp orange with a decent eggshell head. The aroma was an abundance of citrus hops. The taste was a nice citrus hop presence in front of sweet malts. The beer was quite crisp and refreshing. This is a very enjoyable beer, it's too bad it can't be produced year round.

I liked this about the same as the bottle but it was more fun to have a "fresh hop" beer on draft. Surprisingly dark for a pale ale but the flavor is not overwhelming and the hop character is about the way it should be for an american pale. This is a very easy beer to drink and i'll have it as long as it's available.

served on-tap at Flying Saucer KC into a pint glass

Pours a brassy brown that is pretty typical of the APA style, perhaps a smidge darker than the average pale ale. The small head is white and foamy, so much so that the head looked like it was the product of a nitro tap. Lacing is not happening.

A bevy of pine smells come up out of the glass. The malt aroma is faint but sweet when it shows up. This is really one-note and unimpressive. I'd love to be able to write more about it, but I can't.

At least it tastes fine. The wet hops dominate the flavor, though the lupulin flavors aren't complex. This is a very grassy beer. The strong pine from the aroma doesn't translate to much pine flavor. And it isn't floral. Its mostly just astringent and it reminds me of straight lawn grass. The pale malts do bring some biscuit background so that the grassy hops don't become unbearable.

The carbonation level is moderately high, which is a plus and it compliments the thinner body. I can't rate the drinkability of this beer highly. It just isn't good enough to want to have multiple pints of.

Ultimately, this beer drinks like an APA from a random brewpub. I wasn't impressed at all, though this is fine enough.

A beautifully brassy pour into a pint glass with a slight white cap. The carbonation is average. The orange peel and piney notes are arranged nicely. The smooth and clean hop flavors linger nicely on the pallet. This APA is not too big, but more of a mellow representation of the style, nicely backed up with mellow tactile attributes. The aromas are complimentary of the hop flavors and in turn are complimented by the stickiness of the mouthfeel. This example of AIPA is a great winter warmer or summer refresher.

On tap at Plan B

A - Copper with an orange tint to it. Very nice 2-3 finger head.

S - Citrusy, grassy hops, some pine.

T - Well balanced hoppy ale.

M - Pretty darn smooth. Body felt a little thin to me.

D - There were a bunch of beers on tap otherwise I would have had a second pint. This one was very well balanced.

Smell: Sweet, citrusy

Taste: Faint.. Toasty with some hops

Mouthfeel: Bitter with initial carbonated feel. Very light

Drinkability: Overall, it's an okay beer, but the flavor is very faint. I was hoping for a slightly more hoppy flavor.

On tap at Great Divide, served in a pint glass.

A - Clear copper-amber color with a creamy white head and good lacing.

S - Very fresh citrus and floral hops as well as caramel malt on the aroma.

T - Caramel malt and fresh, crisp citrus and floral hops, as well as a little grass and earth. Tasty.

M/D - Finish is clean, and body and carbonation level are medium. Some lingering hop resins on the palate. Drinkability is high.

On-tap at the Great Divide Tap Room.

A: Deep amber, with nice clarity and mild carbonation. A soapy cream tinged cap has strong beginnings, good retention and leaves a goodly amount of lace.

S: Citrus, pepper and pine dominate. There are some toffee notes in the background, but the focus is placed squarely on the hops.

T: Bittersweet toffee starts things out. A moderate bitterness comes on fast. Flavors of lemon, grapefruit, pepper and pine intermingle nicely; with no one flavor overpowering the others. Finishes with a long lasting bitterness.

M: The medium body is oily and slick. Carbonation feels about right.

D: Overall, this is a very nice APA. The hops add a lot of flavor without making the beer a hop bomb. A very nice effort from Great Divide.

A - Amber with a nice off white head that left some lacing, but not much.

S - Citrus and pine hops with a sweet caramel malt background.

T - Pretty good. Grassy pine flavor balanced well with citrus hop notes. Malt sweetness is there, but is not overwhelming. Very crisp and clean.

M - Light to medium bodied and smooth.

D - Very drinkable. A light, crisp beverage that has enough flavor to keep me happy.

On Tap at the Falling Rock. Pours orangish with nice head. Smells of hops and floral, a nice crispness to it. Was hoping since it is described on here as the Liberally Hopped made for the DNC it would taste more like it. Tasted citrusy, hoppy and clean but not like the Liberally Hopped at all. Overall a good beer though.

O'Briens Wet Hop Fest. Amber pour with a fairly large off-white head. Clean pine aroma with grass. Bitter, resiny taste, but without the stickiness. Malt, orange peel, vanilla, and oak all make up the background. A very refreshing APA that rivals good IPA's in taste.

On-tap at the South Philly Tap Room, served in a goblet

Appears an orange/amber with a fluffy white head. Excellent retention and light, whispy streaks of lace on the glass.

Big, fresh hop aroma. Grapefruit, orange, pine needles, and fresh cut grass. A mild malt sweetness holds things down, but the hops really jump out at you.

The earthy, grassy, pine needle hops shine through more on the flavor, with the citrus hops taking more of a backseat. However, they still lend a big hand in the bright hop profile. I am really surprised this is not an ipa.

Medium bodied, maybe a little thin. Finishes crisp and clean.

This is a clean, bright hopped, pale ale and should not be overlooked. Very easy to drink, and extremely fresh.

Poured into a nonic pint glass at TJs in Paoli from draft.

A: A deep orange amber color with a one finger head. Not a ton of glass lacing, but a just a good looking beer.

S: Massive hops, fresh hops. Smells of citrus, pine and grass with some subtle sweetness of malt.

T: Wow, this is a pale ale? Yes it is. The huge amounts of wet hops really stand out with that fresh cut grass flavors, grapefruit, pine and a bit of earthly floral flavors. The deep malt sweetness lies in the backround, but the hops keep beating it down. What a fabulous pale ale, maybe the best I have ever had. Hop head rejoice in this one.

M: Medium to thin. This is where you realize this is not an IPA, but an APA. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, but for an APA it is outstanding. Nice lingering bitterness.

D: Uber high. Nuff said.

Overall probably the best pale ale I have ever had, but you must like hops. If you don't like hops, stay away...far away. Bravo GD, you continue to impress the hell out of me.

Had this on-tap at the Brick Store in Atlanta.

Pours a clear copper color with a one-finger off-white head. The head sticks around for a while before dissipating into a patchy layer on top and a thick ring around the glass. The lacing is pretty sticky.

Smells largely of citrus and floral hop aromas with some light pine. Very hoppy, I'm excited to sip on it.

Tastes just as good as the smell would indicate. Sweet malts mixed with a slight citrus flavor up front, followed shortly by a nice wallop of bitterness. The flavors linger for a moment but then disappear, making me want to take another sip.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a good thickness and solid carbonation, but nothing special.

Drinkability is great. This is an easy drinking APA that I could easily have a few more of.

Overall this is one of the better APA's I've had recently. Be sure to give this one a shot if you see it around.

Lots of pine and american hops ... no alcohol detected ... smooth as a new bowling ball... this is an IPA right?? no APA here ... it actually tastes fresh with a great bitter backbone...One of the nicer american pales available on the market today, just hope the quality doesn't get effected by the hop shortage..

Poured a hazy copper recently at E and into my porcelin mug. Noted a puffy head with lacing that clung in there throughout the experience.

Aroma was mildly hoppy, perhaps less ballsy than I expected but not suprising given the interpretation of the style. Green tea in the background hops all around.

Taste was also milder than expected. Somewhat earthy with hints of pine hops, grass and green tea. Nice moderate hoppy finisht.

Thinish mouthfeel but in a pleasant way.

Drinkable, though not a session brew. Something one could enjoy x 2 in one sitting then would likely seek to move on. Nice effort by a solid brewery.

Drank on-tap at Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn, NY

Poured a clear, glowing, orange-amber with a frothy, bubbly, khaki, one-finger head that slowly faded to a stubborn film. Large patches of lacing stuck all down the glass.

The aroma was very faint. Mild, herbal hops were barely detectable. Even as the beer warmed, the aroma remained placid.

The taste was all hops from start to finish. Piney, resiny hops hit hard up front and never let up. A spicy alcohol kick appeared mid-palate. The long-lasting finish was an intense mix of pine and bitter grapefruit.

Mouthfeel was medium/light bodied with a crisp, lively carbonation.

As with many other fresh hop ales I have sampled, this beer was overwhelmingly hoppy, bitter and unbalanced. I actually had a difficult time finishing my pint.

I would recommend this to only the most devoted of hop heads.

Served in pint glass at Smokin' Joes in Pittsburgh, PA on 11/23/07.

A - Clear, amber/orange body with one-finger of frothy, white head that mostly diminished and left a fair amount of lacing around the glass. Thin density with not much carbonaiton at all.

S - Traces of sweet caramel, some graininess and some burnt maltiness. Hops are a mix of flowers, perfume and some citrus as well. Not a very strong hoppy nose for the style.

T - Lightly sweet and moderately hoppy at first, with a fairly long bitter finish. Nothing spectacular.

M - Light to medium bodied with some oily hops. More watery than sticky. Virtually no carbonation at all. Slightly metallic, bitter finish.

D - Eh? Pretty run-of-the-mill offering. Again, I'd like to try a bottle with a freshness date to re-evaluate this brew.

Smell is loaded with hops which supresses any other scents.

Finishes dry, dry, dry.
