A bit muddled, but I believe the lettering on the bottle reads Apr 2010. Modest brownish foam, looks like a good espresso crema. A very, very dark beer, as it should be.
Coffee highly present in the aroma, it smells like chocolate and coffee, big time. Not a whole lot else getting in the way of the chocolate and coffee here, which I actually prefer in these big coffee stouts. Give me that big chocolate and coffee aroma and I'll rate it highly. I don't want a lot of char or hops getting in the way, and they don't here.
Oh yeah, that's tasty. Slam dunk easy rating. Again, not terribly complicated, just a ton of real quality espresso taste with great bitter chocolate undertones and a little of the vanilla you'd expect from oak chips. Very dry and long finish, with some pretty bitter hop on the aftertaste that just goes and goes. Feel is silky and smooth; it has the feel of something you'd drink at dessert or *for* dessert.
It's big, but at one year there's not much assertive alcohol to taste, which always aids drinkability. Still, at this strength, you will feel it when you drink a bomber yourself, certainly.
