So there I was, pouring motor oil into a glass, captivated by the beautifully cascading dark chocolate head. I may have poured the beer a touch aggressively because the head is standing tall around 3 inches in this pint glass. As the head starts to fall it clings to the glass in full force and full coverage. It has tons of strength and falls very slowly and maintains a pillowy appearance.
The nose is action packed with coffee and chocolate. There is a touch of sweetness behind the coffee, but it smells like an iced drink that you'd get from Starbucks. There is a slight hop character to it that offsets the sweetness, I'm excited to see how that comes on the palate.
The mouthfeel is very full, very creamy, and only slightly coating than I thought it would be. There is slight carbonation though that gives it a little more jump. There's a bitterness that rears it's head right behind the coffee character. This beer is pretty big, lots of flavor and some complexity that will deepen over time. I'm excited to see how this beer gets after a year or more. 3 bottles in the cellar.
