Gorgeous beer. Motor oil black pour with ample viscous, sticky brown foam. Retention and lacing are superb. The aroma is chocolate, roast, oak. There is some dark, bitter espresso aroma, but it is not as strong as I expected. On taste, the chocolate, oak, and bitter coffee dominate the palate. The beer is full bodied with low-moderate carbonation. Slightly sweet, bitter finish. Overall, a very nice beer.

This beer pours a deep motor-oil black with a large mahogany colored head. The The aroma starts with very dark chocolate, maple syrup, and lots of brown sugar, accompanied by some scorched caramel and vanilla. The flavor is rich and roasty, with chocolate and vanilla most prominent to start, followed by big notes of brown sugar and burnt caramel, and then the coffee comes through very powerfully at the end, including some nice tingly acidity from the coffee beans. The mouthfeel is fairly full, but cut through by biting, sharp small bubble carbonation. Overall this is a hell of a beer - not my favorite yeti variant, but a damn nice way to start my Sunday.

Pours jet black with a thick oily appearance. Thin, one finger brown head quickly dissipates leaving some spotty lacing on the glass and a thin tan film around the outside of the beer.

Smell has aromas of roasted espresso beans, roasted malts, and dark chocolate. Undertones of vanilla and oak.

Taste has notes of roasted espresso and dark chocolate up front. Nice roasted malt character throughout with a definite noticeable bitterness from the hops. Aftertaste is a pleasantly mellow cocoa and espresso blend. Overarching that there is a mild undertone of vanilla and oak. The oak is slightly harsh, but the vanilla is very nice.

Feel is very nice for a stout. Mild carbonation, decently smooth, drinkable.

Overall a very good stout, probably my least favorite of the Yeti series, but still very good.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I enjoy coffee flavored beers. This is definitely a strong coffee flavor and profile. While not as enjoyable as the Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti, it is still a top class beer.

Pours black with a medium-thick foamy dark caramel head. Fair retention with good lacing left behind at the top of the glass, but none later. Picking up roasted malts, with hints of espresso and oak in the aroma. Taste is roasted malts throughout, with sweet espresso notes. Sweet as in sugary. Feel is medium-thick, with some mouth coating ability. Overall, a pleasant imperial stout, but a bit on the sweet side so be wary. Otherwise, it's a pleasant sipper/drinker.

Served in a 12oz snifter.

A: Pours pitch black with a chocolate colored head, head was creamy and full of tiny bubbles before it disappeared, slight lacing, no light coming through at all, big looking stout.

A: Touch of coffee, oak, roasted malts, not picking up any dark fruits, smells dry and roasty.

T: Espresso has really died off, lots of oak coming through, touch of dark fruits, finish is dry with oak lingering in the aftertaste, not as bright as I was expecting.

M: Big dry finish, could use some more body for a RIS, however it's very drinkable and smooth.

O: This bottle is 16 months old and it has not aged well, espresso has died off leaving the oak with a strong presence, it's very drinkable but I'm really going to have to try a fresh bottle to see what difference it's make.

O: I guess I need to try this as it's bottled... I'll update my review if it's better. I've enjoyed the other GD Yetis I've had but this is so overwhelmingly bitter any positive notes that are there are hidden

Bought a 22 oz. bottle from Hazel's in Boulder, CO. Bottled on Feb 10, 2016. Poured into an Avery cognac snifter.

Look: Very dark with medium brown head. More head than I would have expected for this high of ABV.

Smell: Surprisingly strong hop profile. Very roasty malt. Coffee. Smells like Founders Breakfast Stout.

Taste: Nicely balanced, but a little bitter when it's still cold. Not as complex as I was expecting, to be honest. Could use a touch of sweetness to balance the espresso.

Feel: Medium plus body, medium carbonation. Pretty dry finish.

Overall: Okay, not great. This promised a lot from the name and description, but falls short of other beers in the same style.

Exactly what a stout is suppose to look like. Toasty malt slight coffee, not much scent. Strong boozy espresso taste. Medium body light carbonation, smooth and yummy. Incredible beer!

Appearance is jet black with one finger thick head and excellent lacing around the glass.

Smell is oak, roasted malt, bitter coffee and alcohol.

Taste is like the nose except the oak comes through much stronger and the coffee not as strong. There is moderate sweetness throughout and some heat on the finish.

Mouth feel is medium-heavy in body and creamy with fairly low carbonation.

Overall this is a solid stout with a strong oak presence.

smell is fantastic, very creamy aroma. lots of coffee and chocolate in this, very nice so far.

taste hits hard with coffee and oak. finishes bitter and dry, with an oaky flavor. can taste the wood in this, in a good way. slight alcohol burn as well but still a damn good flavor. i'm not a barrel aged fan but this is subtly different and i like it.

pretty damn good beer, a full flavored oaky flavor coffee stout.

Chewy awesomeness here. Head that lasts forever. No innuendo intended. You get the coffee upfront, but a sweetness at the back of it. Rich and smooth in texture. Nice viscosity. Very solid brew. If I could afford it, I would drink more of these.

Pours a thick, oily, opaque black with zero penetration of light. Deep coffee colour crown, nice and foamy, topping off this version of the Yeti beautifully. Trails of lace clinging to the glass on the way down. Smells very malt forward with subtle Oak and burnt coffee grounds. I'm not sure what I'm picking up here, but there's also a light metallic scent that's a little off putting to me. Maybe my nose was just off today and the next bottle will up my rating on this trait.

That small nuance aside, this tastes phenomenal. Crushing malt profile lays the smack down on your taste buds. Sweet, sweet goodness of toffee and caramel give way to a hefty dose of roasted barley, followed by a heavy blast of bitter chocolate and coffee. Hints of lactose, molasses, earth, vanilla, marshmallow fluff, oak and a resonating note of pine resin round the Yeti out. Thick, creamy, chewy and full bodied. Fantastic.

Pouring this beautiful brew with the gold foil makes it seem like royalty, and it's oh so close. I still prefer the regular Oak Aged Yeti over this one, as the coffee overpowers the oak, here, but this is by all means still an excellent stout that I intend on enjoying again.

The espresso here is a very welcome spin on the regular ol' Yeti I've grown to love. It pours just as dark as it's Imperial famous brethren with that inherent tar appeal. The coffee addition to the Yeti morphed to be far more brunch worthy than expected. Hints of robust espresso officially saddle this Stout right up next to those tailored for that 10am beer breakfast. The coffee boasts a faint, but noticeable scent in this beer yet remains fairly within the foreground of Yeti's overall flavor. It won't consume nor overpower like most other Espresso Stout's in this growing field.

Like a heavy creamed Colombian coffee, the Great Divide Espresso Oak Aged Yeti can stiffen a weekend morning for any potential task; a caffeinated addition to an already delicious and hoppy friendly recipe.

Nice head creamy tan brown. Perfect
Rich smell of creamy chocolate, coffee and oak
Full creamy mouth feel that's dry but leaves a very tasty aftertaste
Taste is very rich and bold. Roasted espresso is the most prominent character here. Dark bitter chocolate and oak barrel stands out as well. Coffee has nice character and complexity. I'm going to age 2 of these and see if that strong espresso lightens up balances out more with the rest of the beer.
I highly suggest the oak coffee stout lovers pick up a bottle try a 5oz out of the frig, another 30 minutes later and kill it at 45 minutes.

Serving type: 22 oz split between me and the girlfriend

Pours pitch black with brown bubbles. Heavy coffee, milk chocolate, small alcohol scent, mild roastiness. Taste reflects the smell. Initial coffee and dark chocolate tastes lead into a pleasant herbal and coffee roastiness that finishes with a lingering sweetness and alcohol burn. Feel is thick and slick, just enough carbonation to not be completely flat. Overall this is a good beer with great coffee aspects.

A: sweet and slightly boozy. Green grapes plum molasses and caramel. Slight oak

T: Wave of chocolate with dark roast malts and some charred flavor. Strong oak and some bitter flavors. Coffee comes throught a little. Less complex than expected.

A: full body with nice carbonation. Flavors float around in the mouth. Deep roasted coffee comes through in the aftertaste.

O: Nice deep and rich stout. Oak comes though prominently with burnt malts. Coffee doesn't hit until the aftertaste. Less complex than expected and a little but too bitter.

22oz bomber, bottles December 22, 2015. Not to get too far ahead, but this could probably have used a little more time to mellow out.

Pours an absolutely beautiful black body with big, fluffy brown head. Looks thick and oily as it flows.

Smell is roasted and probably burnt malts. Could be the espresso, but hard to distinguish from the malts.

Taste follows the smell, and its kind of disappointing. There's not much sign of espresso, its just a really bitter stout. Maybe I'm missing something because everyone else seems to love this beer, but I'm not digging it.

Overall, I can't get on the train and I'm pretty disappointed. There's one note here, and its bitter, burnt malts/coffee, and I can't find anything redeeming (other than the tremendous appearance). I like GD, so I won't shy away from their beers, but this one isn't for me.

Thick, luscious, creamy, . This one pours a rich black with a creamy khaki head that just screams espresso. Aromas are full of chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oak, marshmallows and Roasted malts. Flavors are full and extremely rich. This is a sweet beer but not syrupy or sugary. Feel is thick as well. This is a great example of a desert beer. Reminds me of snacking on those chocolate covered coffee beans. By far my favorite Yeti variation.

A: Deep dark brown with two fingers of mocha/olive colored head that lasts and lasts.

S: Scent is sweet roasted malt, strong coffee and chocolate with some light vanilla and caramel.

T: Flavor is brown sugar, bitter dark roasted espresso, light oak, chocolate and slight vanilla.

M: Deeply creamy, a bit chewy. Appropriately carbonated to support the style and flavors.

Poured from a 120z bottle into my Lucifer goblet.
Appearance: Dark jet black with a thin but lingering tan-colored head
Aroma: Chocolate dominates with espresso/coffee backing it up.
Taste: The espresso/coffee notes come through first laying a foundation for the chocolate to work off of throughout the beer. Some oak tannins are present to contrast the sweetness of the beer, and become increasingly more present as the beer warms. A hint of alcohol is present towards the finishes alongside the the increasing roastiness. After warming, the roastiness and booziness take over the taste and renders it barely drinkable.
Mouthfeel: Not as viscous as I would have thought but still quite smooth and medium-high with the alcohol adding a some mouthfeel to the beer. The carbonation is medium
Overall: An overhyped beer that doesn't deliver. The aroma needs more complexity and the taste needs the flavors to meld better instead of each flavor showing up at a different time by itself.

Appearance: A deep, solid black with no head whatsoever. Looks like what you'd expect from an imperial stout.

Smell: I have one big criticism with the smell here- there is a big hop aroma which caught me off guard. I had this beer and an FBS on the table at the same time and was really surprised at how much stronger the coffee aromas were in the FBS than this beer. I found that there was an almost sour hop note in this one, which combined with some of the inherent acidity in the espresso and funked up the nose a bit.

Taste: The taste, however, redeems this beer. I couldn't really detect any emphasis from the oak- maybe a slight softness in flavor, or a more muddled flavor, but otherwise just seemed like a coffee stout to me. The espresso was especially strong and flavorful, without contributing burnt notes. At the same time, the beer didn't taste like coffee ice cream or a Starbucks mocha. Nicely done. Decent hop presence on the back end, especially perceptible when burped.

Mouthfeel: High body with medium carbonation makes it feel thick but still lively on the palate.

Overall: A great beer, for sure, but one where the nose to could some more improvement. Would recommend.

Bottled 12-19-14....cellared a year now

L: pours thick, with dark yellowish mocha head
S: dark chocolate, black licorice, bitterness
T: chocolate, dark roast coffee and malt. It's the best yeti I've had. I'm happy it finishes sweet instead of bitter. Good stuff.
F: smooth, easy drinking. Medium thickness and coating.
O: a year in the cellar helped this one.
