A: Pitch black pour with a dark espresso brown head.

S: Oh man... Rich roasty coffee, fudge, and raw cocoa nibs. A hint of vanilla as it warms. Can't wait to get into this one.

T: Tons of potent espresso on the front of the palate, followed by raw bitter dark cocoa and some vanilla and tannins from the oak. Finishes with a hint of ash and tobacco that lingers in between sips.

M: Oily and full bodied, with prickly carbonation that carries the flavors nicely.

O: Fantastic beer, no one aspect dominates. Balanced and extremely well crafted imperial stout.

Poured a black body with one finger than head that left minor lace patches down the glass. The aroma is roasted and coffee malts, the espresso aspect being noticeable, and there seems to be a hint of the oak/woodiness and even vanilla. I get this same aspect in the beer as it is medium bodied, slightly chewy, and smooth with oak notes and a minor vanilla like sweetness. The coffee taste is strong and really noticeable on the backend and finish as this beer finishes real dry. I like the balance and how this beer first hits me with a sweet edge and then finishes dry and just tempts you to have another sip.

22 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a pitch black color. The head is a finger high and dark freakin' tan in shade. It retains solidly, fading to a thin film in around 3 or so minutes. A bit of lacing is left behind. I love the aesthetic appeal of a dark-ass stout like this.

S: Ohhhh yeah. The coffee is definitely here, but nice and subtle (letting it open up will reveal more espresso, natch). There's also a ton of roast, umami, dark chocolate, and tobacco. I really enjoy the roasted notes of this in particular - it's gentle and balanced, but also very prevalent. Call me crazy, but I think this is going to taste amazing...

T: It starts off very roasty: not just from the coffee, but from the malts, as well. The roast flavors seem to be a touch on the ashy/smoky side - nothing to upset this beer's balance, though. Right before the swallow, I'm picking up some great dark chocolate notes. Leafy hop bitterness pops up on the finish to meld with some of the irish cream, oak, vanilla, and umami flavors. When it really warms up, it becomes a bit salty, as well. Everything here is in good harmony...actually, this is so good, I kind of don't want to review this. I just want to drink the hell out of this one.

M: I'd call the body "medium-heavy", erring towards heavy when some of the (soft) carbonation fades away. The finish is bitter and dry, but not too bitter or dry. Naturally, it's not really a chugger. Could care less.

O: Last night, I put this bottle in the fridge and said to myself "this will be bitchin'." I was 100% right. This not only tastes amazing, it puts me in a happy place precious few beers can throw me into. Gimme more!

A - Great looking stout. Beautiful mud and khaki colored head with great retention and lace. Virtually solid black body with dark cola edges.

S - Dry, assertive, and complex. Bright wood, raw coffee beans, vanilla, dark roasted grains, dry grape seeds, dark chocolate, touch of booze.

T - Nice complexity. Bitter coffee, vanilla, oatmeal, touch of caramel, darkly toasted white bread, touch of cream, and warm subtle booze.

M - Full and creamy. Super smooth.

O - A little past it's prime. Of all the adjunct flavored stouts, I find that coffee variants are more likely to take a dive with age. Definitely interested in trying this fresh.

Pours a sludge-like deep, deep brown with a finger of dense, dark khaki head, like the crema on top of a shot of espresso. Impressive lacing for an imperial stout.

Smells of bitter chocolate, black licorice, roasted, borderline burnt barley and a touch of oak.

Tastes big and bold -- bitter chocolate, black coffee, oaky vanilla, milk chocolate. A little caramel sweetness. Smooth espresso on the finish. Nice lasting roasty bitterness.

Full mouthfeel that coats the entire palate and lingers. Creamy, with slightly prickly carbonation.

Overall, this is a roasty, roasty stout with just enough sweetness to balance it out. There doesn't seem to be a huge oak presence, but I guess it may have served to soften the edges and meld the bold flavors. A great barrel aged impy stout, though not the best.

Was lucky to grab a bomber of this fresh from the distributor.

A: beautiful dark brew with bright caramel head the whole way through.

S: strong notes of espresso and oak with a slight note of booz.

T: also strong espresso and oak most of the way through with a finish of more boozy than I prefer or hoped for. However, with the ABV that it has I guess you could make a case for it being smooth.

M: surprisingly clean (whatever the heck that means). I was expecting a much larger and fuller mouthful - very malty and almost milkshake-like. It was much more drinkable and smooth, until the boozy finish. Definitely worth a bomber though.

Served in a goblet at Bukowski's in Cambridge.

Appearance: This beer poured a one finger mocha head that for the most part is still there. It is a pitch black color with no clarity or vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Super frothy mocha lacing down the glass.

Smell: Espresso, chocolate, char, smoke, molasses, and dark fruits.

Taste: Espresso, ash, oak, molasses, Bakers chocolate, toasted malts, earthy, bitterness, and some dark fruits.

Mouthfeel: Silky and creamy smooth, a little boozy, full bodied, low to medium carbonation, and a little bitterness in the room.

Overall: Getting through the whole yeti group. Each one has been awesome. I will be having more of these in the future along with the rest of the group.

Beautiful stout, dark brown head that lingered for a while. Straight up black coffee smells and flavors, very bitter for a stout in a very nice way. Couldn't decide if it was too bitter at first, but couldn't stop drinking it! Super thick, almost syrupy, which I loved.

A: Beautiful dark brown to black body with a fingers worth of espresso colored head which swirl to leave the most interesting to patterns to stare at.

S: Big coffee and espresso scents upfront, then chocolate enters the picture. Finally the oak finishes it off.

T: Coffee and espresso

M: Warm and all consuming. Great mouthfeel.

O: Wonderful!

A: Pours a pitch black color with just over a fingers worth of head that slowly fades down to a thin layer of bubbles that leaves some nice sticky lacing

S: Lots of roasted malts and espresso up front with a touch of oak and vanilla. Quite coffee/espresso forward

T: Starts off with espresso and roast right off the bat. Some dark chocolate, vanilla, and oak notes come through behind and are more prominent mid-way through and towards the finish. Bitterness really gets kicked up near the finish as well, when the hops get mixed in with the bitter espresso. Alcohol absolutely nowhere to be found

M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Nearing on smooth and creamy, but still has a bit of a bite from the bitterness and roast

O: Definitely one of the better coffee stouts out there. The coffee is right up front and doesn't get muddled by anything else. Not sure how the espresso would hold up with extended age, but it certainly hasn't gone anywhere in 2 months. Fans of coffee stouts shouldn't pass this beer up

I'm hot and tired after snow blowing some of the heaviest snow I have come across and this is my reward. Whole bottle into my over sized Old Style glass.
Definitely coffee and hints of the wood (more than vanilla oak). Other roast and hints of chocolate.
Attractive like all the Yeti's are. Nice full rich dark tan and dense head. Black body.
Nice firm and full mouth feel. Almost chewy. Satisfying. Coffee lingers for a long, long time with a coffee grainy quality. Coffee is not over-balanced in the flavor. Blends nicely with a subdued oak. That great Yeti stout is there and this is just another enjoyable version.
Well done.

Poured 22oz bomber dated 1/2/2014 into New Belgium globe

A-Pours an opaque black with thin brown/rust head that lasts and laces.

S-Smells of coffee, chocolate, roasted malt, and wood.

T-Taste of chocolate, coffee, pepper, oak, and booze.

M-Full bodied, huge mouthfeel. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, pepper, oak, and booze. Slightly boozy finish.

O-Overall a great coffee stout. Has a nice touch with the oak. They should make a six pack with all the Yeti.

Picked this up recently at the new Bottle King on the Livingston Circle, having never had this beer before. I enjoyed the Yet and the Oak Aged Yeti and also noticed that this was rated highly. While not a bad beer, this had a bit too much going on to fully sit back and enjoy and the ashen, woody notes nearly overtook everything else when it came to the flavor of this. I love Stouts as dessert beers but this needed a big glass of water to wash it down once I had finished this off.

The pour to this was great, as this beer had a nice, rich dark brown hue and solid tan head that was present but not overly thick. Lots of brown lacing was present down the side of my glass as I worked my way through this as well. The aroma wasn't that strong but there was enough bitter chocolate and espresso in it to live up to this beer's potential. Both of those were present in the taste but that, as well as the vanilla and roasted malt were inundated by the woody mouthfeel to this. Had this been a bit creamier and lighter on the booze, I would have mistaken this for an Irish Dry Stout. There was a bit of whiskey in the aftertaste and this did feel a bit too strong at times, because the flavors weren't long-lasting enough to compensate for the strength of the alcohol.

This wasn't like a Russian Imperial Stout when it came to the ABV but I would have preferred this to be just a hair weaker. It felt quite roasted and the espresso didn't thin this beer out enough to make it feel completely true to form. While not a bad choice, this wasn't an improvement over the other Yeti's that Great Divide offered and after a while, I got the impression that variations on a theme are only worth it if they augment the original in some way. Coffee and caffeine addicts may get something out of this but for me, this was only worth a go one time around. Just a bit too generic for some that came across as being different from the pack.

22 oz. bottle poured into a snifter at Bocktown Beer and Grill Monaca, PA

Pours pitch black with a finger of dark mocha head that quickly fizzles to a thin collar with sticky brown lacing. Espresso is present but not as dominant as I expected in the nose. Plenty of dark chocolate, ripe dark fruits and smokey molasses.

The texture makes an unforgettable first impression--soft, full, and creamy. Flavors mimic the aroma--it's like vanilla beans, dried plums and roasted hazelnuts draped in rich semi-sweet chocolate, washed down with a smooth espresso. No flavor steals the spotlight, but they work in perfect unison. Earthy hops support with just a hint of bitterness. Coats the mouth evenly but finishes crisp and clean, with the oak and alcohol leaving a dry toasty warmth.

What a pleasant surprise this Yeti sighting was. Among the best stouts I've had, and I hope we cross paths again soon. If you enjoy the rich fullness of espresso and dark chocolate as much as me, and you spot this beast, I can't recommend it highly enough.

On tap at McNellie's OKC. Pours a dark brown with a foamy brown head that doesn't last terribly long. Moderate lacing. Smells of chocolate, coffee and malt with a bit of fruit. Tastes of chocolate, coffee, plums and raisin. Definitely has a woody character compared to the original Yeti. The fruit and alcohol become more apparent as it warms a bit. Definitely a bit of bitter in this one. Medium mouth that oils the tongue. This is nice, but I personally prefer the original a bit more.

Mouthfeel: Chewy and indulgent

Overall: Made for snow days, decadent brunching, and the occasional cinnamon donut fix

A- Very dark, no light passing through this one. First pour left a 1 finger deep, mocha brown head that stayed till the very last drop. Looked very appetizing.

S- dark roast coffee, coco, hazlenut and vanilla with a hint of nutmeg. Alcohol taste was there more towards the end when it warmed up. Overall great taste

T- Strong coffee and bitter chocolate up front finished with a molasses bitter vanilla

M- Thick and creamy

O- Amazing Imperial Stout. Quite session able despite it's first appearance. One of the top BA coffee beers I've tried. At $10 a bomber, I think it's a great deal.

Wow this was a great 32 growler this weekend and much better than the one bottle I had last year. Poured into my 8 oz stout glass produced big mocha head with tons of chocolate up front, vanilla notes in the middle and the coffee notes on the finish. Poured tighter into my 4 oz taster and or 5 oz snifter opened with huge coffee, with the vanilla and chocolate finish. So either way I enjoyed both and this is a chocolate coffee bomb. Terrific mouthfeel, this 32 dissapeared in no time at all. Overall outstanding.

Had from a 22oz bottle. It pours a dark brown, black color, with a very dark brown head. It has a strong espresso nose along with some malts and strong alcohol presence. It has a strong espresso taste, with some vanilla, roasted malts, and strong alcohol taste. It is full bodied and dry finish. Overall a great beer. Great divide does such a good job with their Yet's. I wish they would bring the Oatmeal Yeti back.

A- pours an impenetrable black. A hard pour gets a mocha colored head, which doesn't last particularly long but still manages to leave some nice lacing on the glass

S- deep, rich coffee notes and a slight alcohol sweetness in the background

T- there a big malt notes, dark toasted grains, coffee, bittersweet chocolate and some mild earthy hops all bouncing around for great effect.

M- not as thick on the palatte as I would have thought, but still nice. There's a slicker, slightly oily feeling

O- all in all this is a great, big flavored Imperial Stout

A - Pitch black pour with one finger caramel colored head. Great lacing.

S - Nose is cigar wrapper, coffee and hot chocolate powder.

T - Heavy espresso, cocoa powder and burnt coffee. Oak is definitely present as well. Some molasses sweetness.

M - Mouthfeel is creamy with an astringent lingering coffee after taste that fades to straight oak cube.

O - Great beer, but I don't seem to be as much of a fan of espresso and oak tannins as some here.

IN keeping up with the sudden new tradition, for the superb owl, I had a beer from Seattle, one from NY (for the host even though it's technically jersey), and now one from Denver. Another one that's been sitting in the cellar for a while, waiting for the horizontal, but instead I'm doing them piecemeal. This is the last of them other than Barrel Aged. Date bottled on feb 13, 20?? (cut off) but I believe it's 2011 or 2012.

Pours darker than Cruella Deville's heart, thick heavy motor oil pour practically sludges into the glass and forms a decent mocha colored dark slight fizzy creamy 1/2 finger head that fades at a med to a bit quicker pace. just a touch of lacing, but legs that make a whisky get a boner. The beer is just black, no other descriptors to be had, just black.

Nose brings plenty more of the super dark jet black malts, roast and more roast up the... well the roaster, with some black malt, a nice dark chocolate like fudge, pretty heavy fudgey aroma. Also plenty of espresso as expected, not quite a fresh grind, but a definite heavy intense espresso bean, with some heavy malt soaked in espresso (almost tiramisu like), with a mild toasted oak and some vanilla, a fluffy center like nougat, and faint hints of earthy spicy hops. Also, a touch of caramel and Charleston Chew candy bar.

Taste is oh yeah chocolatey but not crazy chocolate, chewy dark malts and more dark malts, some fudgey flavors and chewy malts, oats and creamy flavors mix all that with a nice fluffy nougat. Into caramel and mild candy bar again. The roast is a big player again, dark roast that's not too burnt or acrid, roasted malt with nice espresso bean, coffee flavors again not fresh but a nice intense espresso, and that mild coffee drenched cake like thing going for it. Then oak, a big toasted oak that seems like it would have been overpowering when it was fresh, big oaky flavor with big toasty and a little vanilla, leading again to the Charleston Chew. Mild earthy spicy hops scattered throughout the center, but not a lot, some bitterness coming from the dark roasty malts too. pretty smooth for being so big and heavy. Finish gets a bit more bitterness with a bit more spicy hops and even a hint of a minty coolness, a mild booze warmth kicks in but surprisingly not a lot there, lots more toasted oak big oaky flavors late too, bit more espresso in there and mild roasty dark malts and dark chocolate too.

Mouth is big fuller bod, but still creamy and fluffy, nice fluffy carbonation, smooth booze warmth that's pretty light and mixes nicely.

Overall very nice, not sure how much the age mellowed and smoothed it as the booze is very light, the oak seems like it would have been way too intense but it's not, the espresso and roast also seem like they would have been overbearing but instead are pretty nice. Very drinkable.

So, not quite a fair fight but Denver won the beer battle off, but I didn't have a better Seattle beer on hand for it, or NY beer either (that I wanted to drink right now at least), so not sure what that predicts, but atm on my DVRed version Seattle is winning by 5 (really a Safety to start the game?!)

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Black with a nice khaki head. Excellent retention and nice legs.

Smell - Heavily roasted malt. Grassy aromas. Coffee. Dark chocolate.

Taste - Bitter burnt malt flavor up front. Grassy flavors just behind it. Bitter character before a subtler coffee flavor comes in.

Mouthfeel - Overly bitter for me. Bitter and dry. It could use with some creaminess and a bit more body.

Overall - My least favorite of the Yeti series, besides infected bottles of BA Yeti. Leaves a dry bitter coffee flavor without the rich components I'd like to get from it.

Bottled Dec 23rd, 2013. About a month old.

A: Pitch, pitch black pour with one of the darkest brown heads ever (almost pure black itself). Tall, dense head to boot. Heads fades super slowly with great retention. Moderate thin streaks of lacing everywhere.

S: Ohhhh yeah. Beautiful coffee notes. Chocolatey and sweet coffee notes, more like a mocha or even a sweet iced coffee. That is to say, not an acrid, bitter coffee aroma. Touch oaky when swirled. Even a little char/smoke here and there.

T: Again, loads of coffee. A bit more bitter here but backed with lots of sweet chocolate still. Delicious mocha flavor, very creamy and thick with great chocolate notes. Flavors turn a bit less sweet and becomes more of a lightly bitter coffee bean and bittersweet chocolate. Never gets truly acrid though. A bit of oak in the finish mixes with the bittersweet chocolate/coffee combination.

M: Heavy, creamy, smooth. Decadent.

O: Delicious. I really enjoyed this one. Bold flavors and well balanced. A bit one-note with all the coffee and chocolate but I don't mind much because it's so tasty. Drinkability is fantastic with the smooth, creamy mouthfeel as well.
