Poured from 22 oz. Bottle:

A: 2 1/2 fingers of head - carbonation is clear and doesn't dissipate quickly. This beer is dark as night, it is clearly an Imperial Stout. The head is even a nice dark brown color.

S: Great smell - espresso at the front with a slight hint of chocolate mixed in; faint alcohol in the mix. This smell is phenomenal - Great Divide mixed the odors perfectly.

T: Strong notes of coffee with hints of oak on finish. Phenomenal finish - smooth and creamy as it goes down; very drinkable for an Imperial. Alcohol is slightly noticeable, but doesn't hurt the overall flavor of the beer (it is stronger when it hits the palate and fades through the finish).

M: Malty, smooth, and creamy.

Great beer, the vanilla wasn't as noticeable as I expected; still overall very good.

D: Surprisingly drinkable for how heavy this beer is. One is quite enjoyable and having more doesn't seem unfathomable.

A: Deep dark nearly fully black but some brown highlights notes. Small, quickly disapearing khaki head, decent lacing.

S: Medium roasted espresso, bittersweet chocolate. Oak trails in the rear.

T: Follows the scent with medium roasted espresso, bittersweet chocolate... oak and vanilla in the rear. Some brown sugar/maple syrup like sweetness.

M: Medium bodied, lightly carbonated, silky smooth, non coating, nice mellow oaky aftertaste

D: Definitely better than the chocolate which lacked a full flavor profile. THe esspresso is muted compared to other coffee beers. Complex and smooth enough to enjoy more.

A- Dark brown almost black liquid topped with a large brown head. Head is long lasted and falls very slowly. Leaves a fair amount of lace on the glass.

S- Coffee and chocolate, but subdued by an earthy aroma. Notes of vanilla, oak, and alcohol are present in the background.

T- Heavy taste of coffee and coco. Both tastes seem to fade away slowly until the finish were they are replaced by a pronounced bittersweet dark chocolate final note.

M- Full bodied and creamy. Very smooth and silky in the mouth. Finish is bone dry.

D- Very, the 9.5% ABV is only present in the back of the aroma. Full bodied but not heavy. Thick but not overly.

What a great beer. Reminds me of a great cup of coffee and I could drink this for breakfast.

Bomber bottled on Feb 13th 2009...

Pours a very dark, almost black with a tan one finger head. I can see small red highlights if I hold it up to the light. Head is sticking around for the review. The smell is actually more boozy than expected. I thought this beer would mellow with a half a year age on it. I can definitely smell the oak and chocolate, but I'm struggling to find the espresso on the nose. A quick swirl of the glass only brings up the alcohol aroma. Definitely smells sweet and roasty once you get past the hot alcohol presence. As far as taste goes, it's a grand slam. You get a rush of sweet fruits and alcohol, but it is mellowed quickly by a very nice coffee and cocoa presence. It seems like the cocoa sticks to your tongue, making for a very nice mouthfeel, almost like the way a sugary hot cocoa leaves a residue of sticky chocolate on your tongue. Very nice. Wouldn't consider this one too drinkable, might be better with a little aging. I attempted to keep this one as long as I could, but it was calling my name. Not the first I've had, but the first I sat down to review. Very solid stout.

Mind blowing, the absolute best coffee stout that I've ever had. It is refreshingly bittersweet with cocoa to back it up. Absolutely incredible... Pours pitch black with a nice head and lacing... smell is velvety dark chocolate and espresso coffee with a touch of wood... taste is the same as advertised by the aromas... mouth feel is pure velvet, alcohol is there any? ....nuff said!

22oz bottle from my jaunt through the States. Pours a dark dark black with just the faintest hints of brown along the edges in the light. Dark chocolate head that dies down, reappears when swirled but doesn't leave any lacing.

Nose is a rich milk chocolate, some rich espresso and hints of bitter chocolate.

This is a big brew. Dark espresso notes, milk chocolate almost along the lines of Souther Tier Chokolat (though not as foreword), bold sweetness mingled with a dark bitter roast and a bitter hop finish, hints of wood, quite a dry finish, some alcohol in the finish as well. Rich yet not overly sweet, nice blending of the espresso, though the oak doesn't come through much.

This is a nice brew that I enjoyed sipping most of the evening. Holds up well, body is full. Perhaps a little too bold in the roasty bitterness but it adds a nice balance. A touch rough but that's alright. A great big beer.

We cracked this amongst other fantastic beers at a birthday party for djmiller92.

Poured a very black fluid with absolutely no light penetration. A substantial tan head of two finger width formed atop the beer from a mildly assertive pour.

The smell was intoxicating with a slight chocolate and caramel sweetness buoyed by the incredible roasty coffee and espresso dominance.

The taste had varying levels of awesomeness. To start you get a roasty bitterness that permeates every taste bud in the mouth. Then a creamy sweetish malty middle relieves the bitterness only to relinquish control back to a bitter coffee finish that continues into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel is very nice. Fully bodied coupled with a healthy amount of carbonation.

Drinkability is tough because there is such an overwhelming coffee/roasty bitterness. For big flavor beer lovers, this will be a welcome addition, but others may find it staggeringly bitter.

Pours a 2-finger, milk chocolate colored head with good retention and no real lacing (the pours upon warming gave some slight lacing). Dark, opaque, brown body.
The smell is coffee, a bit of booze and some dark chocolate.
The taste is bitter coffee that lingers and alcohol at the end. The oak aging makes it's taste present and the chocolate in the smell seems to be missing foor the most part.
Mouthfeel is medium when warmer and has a dry finish.
Drinkability is OK. I found the bitter taste (not any hops bitterness) and the booziness a little off-putting for me. I can see how some might like this but this one's not for me. Yeti is great and there are coffee stouts that I do enjoy but not this one.

Poured into my pint glass. One finger, tan head consisting of fine bubbles atop a dark brown clear body. Head color was appropriate for the style.

Aroma was of roasted malts, dark chocolate, a little vanilla, and some oak tannins. A little rich coffee at the end.

Taste started with rich roasted malt, mingled with bitter chocolate. Roasted malt and coffee were both present in the aftertaste. Very nice.

Mouthfeel was smooth and silky, good body that supported the flavors. Well balanced, not watery at all.

Good drinkability marks for this one. One bottle went down well. Price was a little high for me to make this a regular offering, but I would readily have another were it available.

650 ml bottle poured in to the Ommegang wine glass. Bottled on date of May 2009. Pretty simple but wordy with lots of info on the brewery as well as this brew.

Pours a midnight black color with a very tan frothy head that lingers a while. Smells of chocolate and coffee, pretty typical for this style of beer. Taste is spot on with lots of sweet chocolate, hints of coffee, and the bitter after taste that keeps me coming back for more. Also lots of roasted malts hit the palate. Mouth is full bodied with minimal carbonation. Drinkability is high. Quite an outstanding flavor. Definitely will add this to my regular brew in the DBF. Good job GD brewing.

Pours black with a dark brown head that lasted only a little while. The aroma is coffee, chocolate and a little boozy. The taste is coffee and chocolate too, but the alcohol taste make it too harsh. Feel is creamy and heavy. Drinkability is fair and would be better without the alcohol taste.

A: About a finger of light brown head that has a creamy and bubbly consistency. Brew is jet black. Barely-there retention and zero lacing.
S: This is a really nice smelling stout. Coffee, vanilla, wood, and dark berries. Very nice.
T: Big bitter coffee stout. The oak aging is so present in the flavors, with its big vanilla bite. Roasted malts and the alcohol play with each other; I get a lot more bourbon than I do coffee, which makes this label a tad misleading for me! More alcohol with warmth.
M: Viscous and creamy, with low carbonation. Velvety and smooth.
D: I wanted coffee, and the oak/vanilla combo just seemed to stamp it all out here. Maybe it will come out with a bit of age. A nice one to sip on for dessert.

Pours a dark as all night black, nice tan head leaving unbelievable lacing. Smells of strong chocolate and coffee, some oak, molasses, little dark fruit, some smokiness. Tastes of semi-sweet chocolate malt, oak starts coming through as the bitterness arrives. Finishes with a nice charred dryness with more chocolate and coffee coming through. Little dark fruit intermingling with the coffee, maybe some smokiness and bourbon. Fairly dry finish with a decent creamy mouthfeel. Low carbonation with the alcohol pretty well hidden.

A very good Imperial stout. I really like the subtleness of the oak without being too overpowering. I wish the espresso came through more, it was more chocolate on the palate. Nice complexity with the smokiness and dark fruit, almost like a RIS.

A: This one, like it's chocolate brother, pours a seriously black color - no light gets through this one. A healthy pour produces a thick brown head that eventually makes it way down to a half finger that persists throughout the entire event and produces good amounts of lacing.

S: Coffee is right up front but I expected that given its name. Of the other typical stout aromas the toffee our weighs the chocolate. The oak is in there but it is well blended and doesn't overwhelm anything. As it approaches the more appropriate temperature there is a sweetness - maybe a slight dark fruitiness.

T: This is awesome and complex. The oak makes a little more of an appearance here but again it is well blended with the other flavors. Heck, everything is well blended in this one. The coffee is a little more noticeable but, again, the name dictates that. Malt and hops, chocolate and toffee... It's all good.

M: Creamy going down with a little warming sensation. It feels a little oily as it leaves a coating on my tongue. Heavy body and a little light on the carbonation - perfect for the style.

D: I found it really easy to down a full 750ml bottle. The folks at Great Divide seem to love to produce oak-aged imperial items and I love to drink them. This is very enjoyable. This is one to experience.

22oz bomber poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: Pours out loose, not thick, but substantial enough to let you know you are dealing with a decent sized beer here. Smooth, brownish black body with two inches worth of a bloody plum/chocolate kind of deep dark red, purple and brown colored head that fades into a cap, there are some pretty decent alcohol legs on this beer as well.

S: Toasty coffee, dry, dark chocolate, faint caramel. Lots and lots of chocolate, more so than any coffee aspects. Perhaps some time on the shelf sapped some of the coffee aroma but there certainly isn't any lack of chocolate. More of a mocha aroma than any kind of coffee I am familiar with. Slightly creamy but dry mostly, which is weird to me as I didn't think something could smell like both, but somehow it does.

T/MF: Chocolate, dark and dry and bitter. Not really that much coffee, bits here and there but much less than I was expecting going in. Finishes with a slightly drying alcoholic finish that pinches the back of the throat ever so slightly. Medium side of full bodied and quite quaffable if a bit one dimensional.

D: I am sort of on the fence about what to think about this beer. On one hand it sort of delivers what it promises, a coffee infused imperial stout, and on the other hand it delivers what it promises, a coffee flavored imperial stout that lacks any kind of depth or complexity behind the initial blast of coffee and chocolate flavors. It does taste pretty darn good and goes down quite easy but it sort of reminds me of a McDonald's chocolate shake, not that this beer tastes like a chocolate shake, but more so what it feels like after you've finished a chocolate shake from McDonalds. You knew you wanted chocolate going in and it was good while you were drinking it but when you finished the shake you already have forgotten what it tasted like. Yes, it tasted like chocolate but beyond that there was really nothing more there, you asked for chocolate and that's what you got, nothing more. The same thing sort of happens with this beer. You get what you were expecting, maybe even a little less, it tastes good but beyond that there was nothing else there, the depth and complexity that you find in other stouts was not there, the dark fruits, the earthiness, the roasty/toasty flavors that dry the tongue after an initially dark and fruity kick are not here. You get what you ask for out of this beer and not much more. A good beer, but not really worth another ten dollar investment.

Pours thick and very black. The mocha colored head was slow to form and was limited to a half inch before settling down to a thin cap. Minimal spotty lacing is left on the glass. The aroma conists of roasted malt, vanilla, and hints of chocolate and espresso. I can taste the oak barrel influence on this beer but where is the espresso? Roasted malt with a slight burnt and charcoal element is the main flavor element. Hints of vanilla and chocolate as well. Slight taste of alcohol in the finish and has a warming affect. A burnt bitterness lingers in the aftertaste. The body is thick, rich, almost decadent with soft carbonation. A good stout but it is missing the claimed espresso flavor so the score gets lowered. The concept is a definate winner but just not perfected.

22 ounce bottle poured into a Piraat glass.

Pours a dark, dark chocolate black. Huge head, calming down to about one finger.

Smells of chocolate, molasses, coffee, dried fruit, tobacco, malted milk balls, vanilla bean, caramel...and, of course, serious roasted malts.

Taste is super. Molasses, coffee (espresso?), chocolate taste is bitter on the back of the tongue. Vanilla, most likely from the oak. Alcohol is very present, but not overpowering...blending well with the flavors here. Some raisin, dried salted black olives, coffee and cream, brown sugar. Makes me want to smoke a good cigar.

Overall, this is a great beer. Good body, excellent flavor, and comfortable mouthfeel. It's drinkable for sure, and would be a perfect pair for a nice, sweet cigar.

This beer pours absolutely gorgeous just like a big stout should, hosting a nearly four finger thick malted milk chocolate brown head. Great retention as it slowly fades leaving a wall of fat lace and rocky bubbles. Body is thick tar blackness. Nose has tones of smoked malts, espresso beans, dark fruits and even faint minerally hop character. Wow, they were going for an espresso feel(of course) with this one and they hit it o the nose. The first thing you taste is full rich espresso feel that is silky as it glides across the tongue. The second thing I notice is the distinct oaky feel which I may have overlooked as hops on the nose. Definitely more oaky than the other aged Yeti. As you drink that oak feel really wears on the tongue and becomes to dominate for me. Mouthfeel is of oak and dry dark fruits. Drinkability would be much better if the oak wasn't so overpowering.

Pretty excited to see a bottle of this still left on the shelf at my local shop.

Pours a deep viscous darkest of blacks with a 1-inch tan head resting comfortably on top. Retention was pretty stable, but there was little lacing left behind. Smells of big vanilla notes, oak, bourbon, cream, and hints of espresso, though I thought this would be bolder.

The mouth on this was silky smooth. Just a perfect blend of creamy goodness and subtle carbonation playing on the tongue. Very easy to sip. Now where the espresso characteristics were lacking in the scent dept, they made up for in flavor. Big bold chilled coffee taste jived very well with the vanilla sweetness. Finishes very roasty and slightly drying. This was a well-made stout, that I was thankful to have had the pleasure of enjoying.

[Note]: I split this with a friend that is just starting to test the waters of craft brew and he loved it! Could not stop talking about it all night.

22 oz bottle, bottled in May 09. Poured into a Boulevard Smokestack goblet. Dark chocolate colored head that is quick to disappear. Color is a black/brown with slivers of dark mahogany highlights.

Smell is strong with dark roasted malts, a little peat smoke and bitter chocolate. I don't really smell the espresso here. The espresso comes through more in the taste. Dark bitter beans that has a crunch. The oak is in the back and finish, and is drying.

Mouthfeel has a medium body with a thin carbonation. A lot like a cold espresso shot. I little creamy, but not enough to be thicker.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a rather large light brown foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry espresso coffee with some lightly bitter roasted oats. Taste is also dominated by astringent and dry notes with bitter roasted malt. Espresso is a bit too astringent for my taste but very well done nonetheless. Body is full with light creamy notes and great carbonation with no alcohol showing. Another fine brew from a great brewery that I sometime forget about.

A: Dark black body under a huge brown head. Good lace and OK retention. Good looking beer.

S: Roasted malt, hint of chocolate, lots of coffee and espresso. I felt at the beginning of drinking the lighter coffee notes outweighed the rich espresso I was expecting, but after a few sips they tend to come to an equilibrium.

T: Creamy sweetness up fronts turns to huge espresso, coffee and roasted malt finish. Decent amount of bitterness. Booze is there, and at times is unfortunately medicinal in character. Bit of a grassy hop can be had as well.

M/D: Full bodied, low carbonation, alcohol can be felt. Drinkability is decent. A big beer that needs to be sipped. Overall, I'm slightly underwhelmed with the total package, but it's still a fine beer.

Appearance: 1/2 inch light chocolate head, black in color

Smell: burnt malt, oak, expresso and chocolate

Taste: a creamy start, chocolate, expresso, then a long oak taste, with a coffee aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: smooth, medium to heavy in body, moderate carbonation

Drinkability: This is a good beer, but probably my least favorite of the three Yeti's that I have tried. It almost tastes like a Baltic porter/RIS mix, which I do not get with the other Yeti's...A good beer which I would like to have again, but for the price one is enough.

A-I had this on tap at City Beverage in Winston-Salem, NC. It was served in a Chimay Chalice. It is pitch black with a nice dark tan head. It leaves some descent lacing and a beautiful cascade effect.

S-There is lots of depth on the nose; chocolate, espresso, brown sugar, molasses, and alcohol.

T-Dark chocolate, espresso, brown sugar, and some dark fruits are flavors that stick out the most to me. At first the complexity is really subdued by the strong espresso and chocolate flavors, but as it warms the brown sugar and dark fruit flavors emerge. Also some oak characteristics come in after it warms as well.

M-Thick with very light carbonation.

D-Pretty drinkable Imperial Stout, though the high alcohol would definitely limit the number consumed.

Overall, this is a good Imperial Stout though not as complex as I had hoped it would be.

22oz bottle purchased at Julio's, Westboro, MA. Gold foiled cap.

Poured into a heavy glass chalice, formed a 1/2" orangey dark brown head over the opaque dark brown/black brew. Head falls gradually down to an uneven layer of bubbles, with leggy slow-falling lace. Aroma is sweet coffee and light alcohol. Taste starts richly sweet, gives a peek of coffee in the middle, heads out with a coffee bitterness that fades in alcohol warmth. Mouthfeel is quite smooth, with pretty good drinkability for the style. Liked the CHocolate version better.
