12oz bottle poured into a Fantome tulip.

Bottled on April 8, 2010, I was a bit hesitant about the age, but the only bottles there were from this batch and figured I'd take the risk.

A - Pours an interestingly murky and cloudy goldenrod with geysers of carbonation springing up everywhere. The head is huge, about 3.5-finger's worth, and incredibly rocky. The terrain is all over the place with peaks and valleys. Retention is superb as well with such active carbonation. Given the head, I was expecting a coating of lacing, but it still put up two nice walls.

S - The nose is rich in orange peel, lemony zest, bready yeast and pepper. Freshly mowed grass and ploughed hay really complete the barnyard image. Light and citric, it can easily be smelled as it rests on the table beside me.

T - The taste follows the nose almost identically. The front of the taste brings fresh, ripe, and juicy oranges and lemons. The grass and peppers follow to help tame these flavors and move it towards a more dry, crisp finish. The back-end is nice and spicy, and the finish is a nice blend of citrus and spice.

M - Mouthfeel is light and pops with carbonation. Overall crisp and dry due to the finish, it leaves a nice taste in the mouth and invites me to drink more and more.

D - Drinkability is high. There is no trace of the 7.3% alcohol in this beer and the flavors remain fresh and vibrant throughout the whole glass. It's almost like drinking a highly carbonated juice, in the best way possible.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, straw yellow with a half finger of white head. Fairly Quick dissipation, resulting in a broken layer of suds across the surface. Virtually no lacing.

Smell - Yeasty Belgian aroma that hits on green apple tartness, light banana and a hint of spice.

Taste - Follows the nose. Green apple tartness at the forefront, with lesser notes of unripened banana. Zesty citrus notes. Light wheat undertone. Finishes with fruity twang and touch of spice.

Mouthfeel - Light in body with crisp, lively carbonation. Clean, semi-dry finish. Very nice drinker.

Overall - A nice saison, perfect for a hot summer day. Nothing I'd go out of my way for, but I could see myself putting away quite a few of these during a BBQ if Great Divide were to get distribution in Sacramento.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a cloudy light yellow color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains spices, wheat, Belgian yeast, light caramelized malts, some citrus and some hops.

T: The taste starts out bready with flavors of Belgian yeast, wheat and a hearty but not too heavy malt character. Then some sweet flavors of citrus, spices and caramel come in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry but slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a long time if you’re in the mood for the style.

Poured a cloudy golden color with a thin white head that dissipated quickly. It looks pretty good, though more head would be nice. Scents of banana, honey, earthy yeast, wheat, citrus peel, mango, pineapple and floral hops. A rich, bright, fruity aroma with a good yeasty character as well. Quite nice. Flavor begins nicely sweet with spicy, funky Belgian yeast, moving into a more sour funk, with notes of citrus, pineapple, honey and wheat malt. The finish is spicy, with notes of coriander and some floral notes. Aftertaste is floral and spicy, with coriander notes. A very good, relatively complex flavor profile, very much a Belgian and a solid example of a saison. Very well executed. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with moderate, prickly carbonation and a semi-drying feel. Very good and true to form for a saison. Overall this is a good saison. Great Divide managed to make a saison with a good deal of complexity, a nice flavor and aroma profile and good mouthfeel. A truly excellent beer.
