Pours a hazy, fuzzy yellow from the bottle into a tulip glass.

Small white head that leaves minimal lacing.

Smells brings nothing amazing, although the absence of huge funky smells is nice - it's a very clean saison.

Certainly a pale beer, with faint bread, tart wheat, and faint hops. Very crisp, light.

Could use a bit better mouthfeel, but overly a very accesible saison.

Appearance - a nice cloudy golden color, but a very fleeting head. Almost didn't appear, then faded away almost immediately. In a category that I typically expect nice substantial, sticky head, I was surprised.

Smell - Notes of citrus, with an almost champagne-like aroma. Floral, but lacking the complex hop-driven notes that I love so much. Subtle hint of green hay as the aroma fades.

Taste - The standout component of this particular brew. Hint of barnyard funk at first, replaced by heavy flavors of grapefruit and yeast. Would prefer a tiny bit of bitterness for balance, but solid nonetheless.

Mouthfeel - Very light, and heavy feel of carbonation. Refreshing.

Overall, a very drinkable farmhouse ale. I'd especially recommend this as a first foray into the style for someone who maybe isn't certain about it. There are others I would drink first, but I like a bit more funk and a touch of hop-bitterness. I think this would be a good one for an outdoor, summer setting.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A - wasn't able to generate any head, but pours a rich gold - reminiscent of Aspens in September. Comes with a slight haze, but enough to blur anything through.

S - tart and citrus - hint of sweetness - simple.

T - lemon zest, fruity, hint of sourdough bread. Lingering tastes of mint and sour elements.

M - nice carbonation, easy drinkability, ABV hidden. Bubbles dancing throughout.

O - 6er recommended.

Chilled 12 oz bottle into a pint snifter. Bottling date March 23 2012. This one's been in the fridge for about nine months.

Look- Clear gold with an extremely dense cap of white foam that more than fills the glass. Visible carbonation. Barest traces of lace.

Smell- Dominantly yeasty, funky, Belgian spice and esters, crusty bread, light nectar sweetness. As it warms, it becomes a bit more ciderlike. Nice.

Taste- This one's improved significantly with age if my memory's correct at all. Light, fruity, white raisin, apricot, coriander, light toast. The bolder flavors lighten and merge as it rolls around until there's the barest hint of dry cider with a lingering fruitiness giving the impression of sweetness. Finishes with dry toast and a hint of oxidation.

Mouthfeel- Crisp, light-medium body, carbonation distinct but not prickly. Mild mineral character at the finish. Finishes a bit heavier, light creamy feel as the carbonation slinks away.No hint at 7+ percent alcohol, you'd think it was 4. Quite drinkable.

Overall- I wasn't particularly impressed by this beer when I first purchased the six pack back in May or so, but a second take has convinced me this beer is worth revisiting. It's mellowed out significantly, and the aggressive funky/estery/dusty aromas and flavors I remember have taken on a subtler and more balanced feel. Nice. Worth trying either way, but I'd recommend giving it six months or so.
