Pours a hazy straw coloration with a one finger white head with some spotty lacing.

Good amounts of belgian yeast and spice on the nose, lemon zest, grass, and straw hop aroma. Yeast imparts some fruity overtones, pear and slight banana and some slight funk, very bright.

Flavor is predominantly of spices and muted lemon with earthy yeast and grassy/floral hops. Slight funk but finishes bright and tangy. Very refreshing.

Mouthfeel is a little light and the yeast does little to dial it up, light fizzing carbonation slightly biting to go with the tanginess. Alcohol, has no presence and lightly acidic after taste, surprisingly drying.

Great Divide delivers again with another great example of style, this one is refreshing and appreciably complex. Bright brew for summer days ahead.

A-cloudy, pale gold with a thick white head that quickly thins out

S-smells like a spicy belgian pale ale...a lot of wheat scent and belgian spices. i could also be smelling a belgian tartness in here too. its a pretty strong scent

T-comes in much like a belgian strong pale ale, it has the belgian malts and spices. i'm finding that this is a crappy saison. its not a bad take on the belgian pale ale, but i'm having a difficult time finding the farm house in this. after the first hit, it goes in to an off tasting maltiness and a touch of booze. the after-taste is strong of belgian malts.

M-medium carbonation with a watery finish

D-overall...this is no sasion. come in to this expecting some barnyard funk and you'll be disappointed. if you're wanting a decent pale belgian, then this won't upset you. it does go down easily for the ABV.

$5.5 for a near pint in Belgian-y glass at Black Star Co-op.

Glowing hazy yellow with white head of tiny bubbles.

Smells is complex, but mostly lemon verbena, honeysuckle, coriander, and other Saison and Wit yeast products.

Cantaloupe and melon. Like a bigger version of a Wit.

My first sip I thought was surprisingly sweet, but the more I drank it I thought it was surprisingly dry. Light body for 7.3%abv.

Website shows 4 different yeasts at higher temperatures. No mention of added sugars or spices used, but it seems like they did.

So many similarities to a Wit keeps me from liking it more, but interesting and worth trying.

The new 2011 batch on tap, Rockies opening day. Sunny outside, perfect for this brew.

Cloudy pour, very hazy and bright. A deep, yet pale golden pour. Big white head, great lacing.

Aroma is very nice; spicy, floral, bready. I've said this before about myself--I think I'm quite sensitive to corn aromas, and I get that here. I'll knock a tic off the score, but not much since it might just be me. Somewhat sweet it seems

Yup, it's a bit sweet in the taste. Overall it's flavors are nice. Bready--with spice. Coriander, florals, a bit of soft citrus. Fairly rich is the mouth. I'd like to see more of something to cleanse the finish, but still very nice.

Pours a clear gold color into a pint glass. There is very little head.

A- fruity, spices, a bit of hops, very sweet.

T- Slightly spicy, some definite fruit, perhaps pear. sweet, with just a touch of hop flavor.

M- Perfect. Light and crisp, with medium carbonation.

Very drinkable, this would be the perfect summer beer. A lighter saison than most I've had, with less of a hop presence. A very nice example of the style, I really enjoy it and will return to it if I see it again.

Poured from a 12oz bottle at Euclid Hall into a white wine glass.

A: Pours a very pretty creamy golden straw with just a touch of haze. The head is stark white but settles quickly over the beer, fantastic lacing.

S: Wilde yeast meets biscuity malts and rounded out by tart tropical fruit and lemon yest. Funk is apparent but balanced by the citrus notes and earthy grassy aromas.

T: Tart and mouth watering. Lemon is the dominate fruit but so is the wild Belgian yeast. Funky notes dance with tart tropical citrus and balanced by earthy grass and terroir. Finish is very long, quite pretty, and dry inviting you to taste over and over.

M: Light to medium bodied with fantastic carbonation. Coats the palate lightly and evenly from front to back with a clean dry finish.

D: This is a fantastic interpretation of a Belgian Farmhouse or Saison style. The Belgian yeast is perfect funk to the malt and the mild hops. Clean and crisp with tart citrus fruits, terroir, and medicinal flavors. Love the dry lingering finish. Perfect beer for a hot summer day or just sitting on the porch.

A: Pours a very cloudy pale yellow color. A two finger white head forms with good retention. Light lace is left behind.
S: Strong yeast aromas up front. Earth with lots of fruity esters up front. Light basement funk. Inviting.
T: Earthy yeast and lots of fruity esters. Banana and light lemon peal. Not much else.
M/D: A medium body that is very smooth. Clean, but not nearly as dry as I would like. This goes down easy. Very moreish.

Enjoyable is the name of the game. Nothing crazy, but a nice easy drinker that is good on a hot day. Worth a try.

A light yellow saison that pours clear to cloudy depending on if the bottle is disturbed. Crisp carbonation apparent. Smells grassy, sweet, and like lemon. Sharp tangy mouthfeel with lots of bubbly drinkability. Tastes is addicting with smooth tarty flavor up front and mellow spice at the back.
Definitely one of my favorites.

Poured into my DFH snifter, pours a very light and completely transparent yellow. A little head tops the beer, but way less than I am accustomed to with a Saison/Farmhouse Ale style. The carbonation is actually visible. Smell- roasted corn, cloves, tart banana? Taste- big clove up front, banana, very sweet for the style. Mouthfeel- major carbonation on this is nice and refreshing. Drinkability- I am overall pleased with this take on Farmhouse Ale, and find this beer to be a great refreshing spring beer that would really work well outside in the sun with friends.

A - Pours a very murky golden yellow into my snifter with about one finger of head that dissipates quickly with very thin splotchy lacing.

S - Lemon and orange, earthy/grassy funk, yeast, wheat, as well as some spice.

T - Juicy citrus, again mostly lemon and orange, but then there is a bit of fermented apple along with the funkiness, nice spicy wheat finish.

M - Carbonation is a little bright at first but settles nicely, crisp and dry, yet it makes my mouth water.

O - Very drinkable, crisp, refreshing and juicy, I could enjoy several of these and not get bored with it.

650 ml bottle poured into a belgium fishbowl glass. My bottle does not say "Colette" -- instead it says "Saison" - but other than that it appears to be the exact same label as the one pictured. It has a 2009 date and has been kept cool in my cellar (not intentionally aged, just never got a chance to drink this).

A: Pale yellow straw-colored, pretty hazy and cloudy, with a thick white head.

S: Floral, yeasty, bready aroma with a little lemony zest as well.

T: Fruity, tart flavors of lemon and citrus with some peppery spice notes as well. A bit overly tart and perhaps a little off -- I'm wondering if it's more due to the age on the beer than the beer itself.

M: Medium bodied, very carbonated and effervescent.

D: I'll re-review the beer if I get a chance to have a fresh bottle, but for 2 year old Belgian, this didn't seem to age all that well.

Pours a hazy yellow with a medium head and some lace. The aroma is tart with a little yeasty baguette breadiness. The flavor is spicy and bready while also maintaining a subtle tartness. The beer is nicely dry and lightly fruity with a bit of lemon rind. Enjoyable, and one more reason I'd like to see Great Divide back in Iowa.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. Information on the bottle includes a short description of the beer, a "Bottled On" date and the abv% (7.3).

Appearance: From the pour it produces a big billowy head of white foam over a hazy golden honey colored body. The haze comes from a fine yeast sediment in the body of the beer. Some of the yeast seems to be pushed up towards the head by the aggressive carbonation. This beer looks to be full of life.

Smell: The aroma is of floral and spicy almost grassy hops with a pale base of biscuity malt.

Taste/Palate: There is a nice balance of spicy yeast with hints of fruit and biscuity maltiness. This has light sweetness that dries out for a snappy dry finish. The carbonation is lively and the palate is crisp.

Notes: Great Divide Is right on with very tasty farmhouse ale!!!

Appearance: A massive, billowy head rises above the cloudy, but pale, honey-colored liquid; great stickage and lacing (Great Divide nailed the Belgian looks)

Smell: Lemon shortbread and rice pudding; sweeter than anticipated, with just a hint of tartness and funk

Taste: Rice pudding, up front, with a developing lemon tartness that grows increasingly peppery; a complex blend of funk and shortbread character builds, after the swallow; all of the flavors merge nicely together, in the finish, though the aftertaste is slightly sweet

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Drinkability: In many respects an excellent Saison, though it verges just a bit too much on the sweet side

typical farmhouse/saison nose (horse blanket), grassy notes with notes of bready yeast and spices (coriander).

nice saison flavor. grassy, farmy and not too spicy. bready malts balance things nicely.

well carbonated mouthfeel; great drinkability especially on a nice summers day.

12oz bottle poured into a Fantome tulip.

Bottled on April 8, 2010, I was a bit hesitant about the age, but the only bottles there were from this batch and figured I'd take the risk.

A - Pours an interestingly murky and cloudy goldenrod with geysers of carbonation springing up everywhere. The head is huge, about 3.5-finger's worth, and incredibly rocky. The terrain is all over the place with peaks and valleys. Retention is superb as well with such active carbonation. Given the head, I was expecting a coating of lacing, but it still put up two nice walls.

S - The nose is rich in orange peel, lemony zest, bready yeast and pepper. Freshly mowed grass and ploughed hay really complete the barnyard image. Light and citric, it can easily be smelled as it rests on the table beside me.

T - The taste follows the nose almost identically. The front of the taste brings fresh, ripe, and juicy oranges and lemons. The grass and peppers follow to help tame these flavors and move it towards a more dry, crisp finish. The back-end is nice and spicy, and the finish is a nice blend of citrus and spice.

M - Mouthfeel is light and pops with carbonation. Overall crisp and dry due to the finish, it leaves a nice taste in the mouth and invites me to drink more and more.

D - Drinkability is high. There is no trace of the 7.3% alcohol in this beer and the flavors remain fresh and vibrant throughout the whole glass. It's almost like drinking a highly carbonated juice, in the best way possible.

A: Cloudy straw. Low/no head, with complimentary ribbons apparent along glass.

S: Medium intensity for a saison. Sweet, toasty malt mend well with touch of spiciness (sense some allspice notes). A hint of farm funk.

T: The beer falls over mouth with evident saison flavors: rice, corn husk, coriander. If I'm not mistaken, I sense a hint of brett funk.

M: Fine, foamy carbonation overwhelms my mouth. As it warms, carbonation seems less sharp, but not less prevalent. Having a hard time with all the flavor nuances of this bottle given the perceived over carbonation.

D: I had a hard time with the carbonation on this one.

Not my favorite style, but a good spin on this style.

A- Hazy pale yellow straw color with a thick creamy white head that leaves thick clinging lace walls. Beautiful.

S- This is the best part of this beer. Belgian yeast! Fresh cut straw, citrus, lemon, lime, orange, and herbal erthy tones.

T- Tart up front with a caramel middle and green apples, lemons, and pice and pepper.

M- Slightly creamy, but refreshing. Not effervecent but highly carbonated. Thin body and dry finish.

D- Nice zippy, spicy refreshing beer. Complex flavor profile, goes down smooth. Not my favorite style, but its good for what it is.

$14.99 for a 6'er in Dearborn. 7.3% ABV. Bottled on Feb 23, 2010. Brewed in the Belgian tradition with rice. WTF? Haha! No specs per the website or the bottle.

Pours out to a hazy pale golden, forming a soapy and voluminous white head with excellent retention and one solid thick sheet of lace. Thin layer of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. Briskly carbonated, but not effervescent, releasing a firm "Psssht" with the cap. The aroma is of green apples, pears, delicate honey, subtle barnyard, and freshly mown hay. The mouthfeel is tart, seltzer-like, astringent and with a deceptively light body owing to the rice and carbonation level. The taste is a recap of the aroma, except there is a subtle toast in the aftertaste, and a definite lemon pith tartness. There is a subtle musty oxidation that doesn't overwhelm, and some slight fusels that creep in owing to the high fermentation temps. Bitterness is mild and floral.

This is a well-crafted brew, but the style isn't really my favorite. If you're a saison fan, it's definitely worth checking out. Comparable to many run-of-the-mill Belgian saisons.

Remarkably clear pale yellow in color, although a nice haze brings it nearly to witbier territory and keeps it from looking like a washed-out, boring corporate lager. So does the head, which is a cloudy white and as fluffy as meringue.

The aroma delivers the goods. Anyone into this style will appreciate it, I'd think. Very clean, very bright, lots of fresh-cut hay/straw, hints of lemon and lime rind, flowery herbal-ness, a hint of soil-like earthy yeast. If you can smell tartness, then this smells tart. Or smells like it's gonna taste tart. Yeah.

Flavor is everything the taste promises, plus the sweet, doughy goodness of sugar cookie dough and shortbread. So: citrus (lemon, lime); hay/straw/grass; flower/zesty herbs; and shortbread cookies. Light flash of white pepper, too. The yeast character is complex and underlines all of this, and it ends with a crisp, semi-dry, citrus-laden finish.

Weighs hearty in the mouth, having just a little bit of stickiness while the carbonation is active yet unaggressive; remains buoyant and airy, very much a pleasure to hold in the mouth.

They nailed it. But of course but a good old American spin on the style, in terms of its stickier/chewier mouthfeel and the slightly bolder flavor than the more subtle creations of the homeland farmhouse ales. Excellent stuff that I wish they'd sell in a bomber, as I could easily enjoy a bit more of this, right now.

The aroma was pretty prevalent with some earthy, lemon and a hint of peppery spice.

The taste and mouthfeel fall really flat for me however. The flavor profile seems to be a muddled jumble of flavors. Starts off sweet with a bunch of pale maltiness. Some slight clove, white pepper and just a bit of coriander. Almost no citrus or grass. Subtle bit of wheat tang with no fruit and for some reason the after flavor really bothers me. I cant quite put my finger on the flavor but it totally missed the style mark for me. Also the mouthfeel is WAY WAY too thick; I think that is my main problem with this brew. I usually love a thicker mouthfeel but not in my Saison. Almost creamy, very unpleasant in my opinion because it is also really carbonated but somehow not at all dry, just wierd.

Overall this is by far my least favorite beer from a brewery I really love, hey can't nail em all I guess...

Appearance: Poured from a 12oz bottle into a large wine glass. The first thing you notice about this beer is the towering sudsy head that stands at about three and a half fingers high. The bubbles are pure white in color and take a long time to recede. Lacing is sticky and thick. The beer itself is a hazy straw yellow, with loads of carbonation visibly active in the glass.

Smell: Aroma is one of grainy malt, citrus, and mineral water. Also getting some funky yeast, fresh fruit, and some peppery spiciness.

Taste: Very crisp and refreshing, with a little more malt than I anticipated. Most of the tart citrus punch hits you at first, whilst the sweeter, fruitier qualities edge their way in at the end of the swallow. The yeasty funk is probably the last flavor to hang on, and it is accented by a touch of spice.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied with a good balance of all the flavors. I like the slightly sweeter character of this Saison, and the refreshing zest it brings to the table.

Drinkability: I've never been inclined to drink much more than one Saison at a time and I don't think this beer is an exception to that rule. I think the peppery spice always seems to make it session-prohibitive.

A - Poured out a hazy, golden yellow color with a one finger, white, bubbly head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace.

S - It smelled of slight funkiness, yeast and sweet caramel. It had a spicy nose, too.

T - This was a nice spicy brew with a yeasty bite. The is a mild dried apple flavor with some grains and caramel.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a very dry finish.

D - This is a pretty good saison. Great Divide has done another great one.

Poured into a pint glass. The pour is a hazy light straw color with lots of visible carbonation and lots of fluffy white head. And I mean a lot, I had to stop the pour into my glass from this twelve ounce bottle. The head reduces leaving behind sticky, soapy looking lace. The aroma is full your typical of a saison, lemon up front with biscuit and hints of pepper with slight hops kicking around the back of the nose. This smell has a lot of lemon up front in it. The taste follows the aroma nicely. Yeasty with a bit of spiciness and finishes with a bit of lemon zing. The abv on this is higher than I realized, but I would think it is much lower by the taste. This isn't really anything out of the ordinary but it seems to be done very well. The mouthfeel is light and crisp with ample carbonation and again, I wouldn't think this is over seven percent, highly drinkable.
