Notes/Commercial Description:
Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout is another revered incarnation of our legendary imperial stout. We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. Another great Yeti? Hell yes.

Into a large snifter...

A: inky black beer with sli dark head that slips away; oily lace motes inside the glass

S: super dark roasty chocolate malts and bittersweet (yes) chocolate

T: not overly sweet - sweet start dries into mellow bitterness; oak contributes lighter, drier characteristics to a rock-solid stout base

M: one of the defining characteristics, for me, of the Yeti series is a certain feel - the flavors are exactly what they say - but the feel is sublime. There is enough abrasion to make it feel like a rugged drink, but also a slick silkiness that makes it drink like a fine cordial.

O: fanboy status confirmed, this is probably my least favorite in the Yeti line. An excellent drink, but I really loved the Espresso Oak, (regular) Yeti, and Belgian Yeti better. I'm probably just more for those flavor profiles, so I tried not to let my preferences overly affect my scores. This is an excellent drink.

A. Dark, dark brown, nearly black. An aggressive pour yielded a small amber head that retreats to a minimal film. No laces.

S. Chocolate, coffee, neutral oak, dark roasted malts all at noticeable levels. Hints of vanilla. Mild aroma.

T. The taste follows the nose consistently. A noticeable bitterness, not at all sweet. Major notes of coffee, dark malts, neutral oak, and some hops. No booze. A moderately bitter ale.

M. Moderately smooth, moderate carbonation, medium body.

O. Very balanced and consistent. Excellent. Highly recommended.

LOOK: Pours really dark with a mocha creme head that laces the glass expertly. Decent clarity as far as sediment, but make no mistake, there's no seeing through this beer.

SMELL: Big and roasty. Lots of alcohol, black licorice, and dark chocolates.

TASTE: Chocolate, coffee, vanilla, oaky tannins, and booze. The strength of the beer is more tame in the flavor. Oak, raw chocolate, char and heavy malts. As it warms more chocolate and vanilla come out, getting close to candy bar and roasted marshmallow status. A small heat builds in your throat and belly from the heat of chiles and alcohol.

FEEL: Full bodied, medium carbonated, completely rich beer.

OVERALL: Chocolate Stout aged in oak with peppers. There's alot there.
