Notes/Commercial Description:
Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti Imperial Stout is another revered incarnation of our legendary imperial stout. We toned down the hops a bit to allow cocoa nibs to contribute some pleasing bitterness, while vanilla notes from the oak combine with the cocoa to create an aroma and flavor akin to a gourmet chocolate bar. A dash of cayenne keeps things lively, adding just a bit of heat to the finish. Another great Yeti? Hell yes.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter.

Pours pitch black. I can't imagine it being any darker. Dark brown head - a finger or two thick.

Smells of roasted malt, dark chocolate, hints of oak.

Spectacular roasted malt, chocolatey sweetness. Has a really rich character. Hints of some spice, like maybe cayenne.

Full bodied, but the carbonation is enough to provide some buoyancy to this brew.

Enjoyable and drinkable offering from Great Divide. Loved it.

A: pours pitch black and some light-brown head. Strong lacing and no transparency
S: Really not too much on the nose even after teased quite a bit; disappointing. Sweet chocolate is all I can gather
T: Super chocolate punch and too much for me to really enjoy. Dominated the palate and taking over everything else except some coffee for me.
M: heavy and not very drinkable for even a stout.
O: Sad to say I was not too happy with this beer as it was more of a chocolate beer than oak or any other balanced flavor profile.

Served from a bomber bottled on 3/19/14

A - pours a wonderful dark black with a quarter inch of thick dark tan foam which quickly fades to a light lacing mainly kept to the sides of the glass.

S - Immediate hints of dark bitter chocolate quickly joined by a sweet vanilla bourbon oaky characteristic which fades leaving only the chocolate and a hint of alcohol behind.

T - Think dark chocolate with a hint of oakiness, but not too much of either balanced with a nice malt bitterness that leaves you wanting more. The cayenne notes at the end are so subtle and yet somehow pull everything together beautifully.

M - fantastically viscous and smooth, no real alcohol comes through on the mouthfeel, just creamy and smooth all the way.

O - spectacular. Reminiscent of a KBS type beer. I would not be at all surprised if this improves more with age as the chocolate fades just a little and the oak evens out more than its already fairly smooth texture. I couldn't keep myself from trying what is now one of my favorite beers of the year, but I certainly look forward to cracking another bottle some months from now and seeing what has happened to this masterpiece. Overall this is one of my favorite styles of beer, and they nailed it.

Great Divide Brewing Company - Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti, poured into a Craftgeer snifter.

Look - Pours a thick viscosity dirty oil black with a nice sized mocha head that dissipates quickly. Good rings of lacing.

Smell - Molasses and chocolate. Roasted malt. Dash of hops. Slight peppery hints.

Taste - Rich and creamy chocolate and roasted molasses. Some bitterness from a small amount of hops. Nice faint peppery finish, not overbearing at all.

Mouthfeel - Heavy-bodied with medium carb. The pepper builds a bit as you drink it but it never gets extreme like some horrible pepper beers I have tried. Warm and boozy. Great drinkability.

Overall - Great brew, I love that they don't ruin it by overdoing the pepper. This is a carefully crafted and tasty as hell brew.
