Pours a dark, almost chocolate-cherry like head. Color is absolutely pitch black. Smell is equally foreboding.
First sip is every bit as bitter and as strong as an aged stout should be, followed by which is a subtle sweetness that makes everything much more interesting. A little heat at the end of it does a great job at finishing everything off in the end.
This can definitely stand its ground with all the other aged imperial stouts in its category (Founders, Shorts, I'm talking to you). The only thing that saddens me about this is the fact that Great Divide will soon be leaving Michigan altogether. Still, this beer will be an excellent reminder what I'll be missing in-state.
