This beer looks amazing with a darkish tan head which is in between lacy and frothy. From what I can tell, it is pretty much opaque.
Right from the open I got a huge whiff the alcohol, or some solvent kind of smells. As it sits for a bit I'm getting dark chocolate and the oak.
Wow this is different! Right in the beginning I got the chocolate, but it was immediately erased by the oak, and then finishing with a raw cocoa kind of taste. The alcohol is masked surprisingly well considering how high it is.
The mouthfeel is great, it definitely has more going for it than most beers. There is a thickness to it and a slight sting.
Overall this is a great beer than I will definitely recommend to by stout loving friends. This beer is different and I love it!

Live tasting poured into tulip...
Appearance; pours a beautiful jet black, with a one finger mocha colored head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving fairly minimal lacing and a thin film of head left.
Smell; chocolate, chocolate, chocolate... Imagine a chocolate lava cake, with hints of vanilla, and oak, the slightest hints of smoke and pepper.
Taste; chocolate!! Initial taste is a ton of bittersweet chocolate, that slowly fades, hints of vanilla and oak step in, and eventually fade, to be replaced with the slightest hints of pepper and spice on the tongue.
Mouthfeel; thick and chewy, smooth until the finish when an ever so slight peppery tingle shows up.
Overall; a great beer and an outstanding variation on one of my perennial favorites, I would absolutely buy this one again!!
